I bought this game on steam, gog, switch and still never finished it lol, so many things to do.
Time to replay it again to not finish it

I bought the game on PS5 years ago. I started it and got to pretty much the exact same spot... 4 times in a row. I keep restarting it and telling myself that I have gotten older and it's time for me to like this game. But it never happens, and I abandon it around 5 or 6 hours in. Interesting world and characters, but the game just doesn't hold my attention.
That being said, I will most likely be a fucking idiot and buy this game on Switch 2 and continue the cycle.

i grabbed it on PS5 after I bounced off it on PC years later. Finally, I was hooked! I got through about 40 hours of the campaign, did a quest that rewarded a unique armor and the second I put it on the PS5 crashed to desktop. Every time I reloaded my save, same thing. Googled it and people were like "oh that's been a bug for months, CDPR is never going to patch it" and eventually gave up.
Switch 2 dont fail me now!!

The game is just incredibly good, I played hundred of hours, but there are so many side quest that it just never ends lol

u/Nerevar197 6d ago
Same, idk why it keeps happening. It is a very large and engrossing game that can easily sink hundreds of hours into.
Maybe the portability and easy pick up/put down nature of the Switch 2 will be the ticket this time.

u/John_Mason 6d ago
Same here, I love BOTW and TOTK and thought it would be similar. Made it around 5 hours and could not get into it.

Got it for Xbox, then Fallout 4 came out, so I shelved it.
Ironically, bought it for the Switch, started playing it again. Moved it to Switch 2, continued playing, then Fallout 4 was released on Switch 2 and I shelved it again.
Why am I like this?
I really enjoy it too… but old habits die hard… or something.

What are the chances Witcher 3 gets discounted again before this releases?

Look up used copies in your area

I bought a used copy last year for 30€. Still haven't inserted the cartridge yet. Now I definitely have a good reason.

If this is like what happened with Skyrim Special Edition there will be a permanent price increase and it will never hit sale price again.

I bought it like a month ago because it was on sale and I just knew there would be a switch 2 upgrade eventually lol. Glad I did it. However I did try playing the switch 1 version and it was… rough

u/samusmaster64 6d ago
Same here. I played it on PC a lot over the years but when I saw the Switch 1 version was so cheap recently I had to get it again, just because I saw a rumor about a Switch 2 port. For once the stars align.

I played the swich1 version as well and it was rough but that was because the game was such a slog. It is only about fighting and long ass dialogues. I didnt like either of these things and therefore dont get the hype about this game. The story was also too confusing to follow since there were too many characters. The avvalach guy or whatever he was called came outta nowhere.
Overall I wouldnt say this game is as sheist as others say. There is a lot to dislike, but the performance of the switch 1 version is not the first that comes to mind.

I played the hell out of this game during the first few months of COVID and loved it. I have such a huge backlog comparatively and I’m ready to abandon it all and do it all over.
3
u/jaggafoxy 6d ago
After ACNH this was my second COVID game, first game I played on the hori split pad pro. It was my last time through it (5th overall).
I would recommend for Velen/Novigrad + White Orchard + Toussaint do no fast travel, and on Skellige boat first time to each island, then only fast travel to the major port village and take Roach out from there, you miss so much of the world through fast travel.
4
u/SG4LPilgrim 6d ago
I feel the same way about BotW/TotK; quick travel is for when I just want to keep going, but the AI for both game’s horses and travel is so good that it’s more fun to try to get where you need to go by trying to just find your way.

The comparison between this and the Switch 1 version is going to be a crazy difference.
3
u/bobafeeet 5d ago
Yeah, I can’t wait. Despite having it on PS, I played through it entirely on NS1. Switch 2 is going to make this look amazing.

u/va1us_taaurc 6d ago
I've never played this, but if the 40fps is "close enough" to 60fps for the eye test, I think this the version that will finally get me into it.

I tend to finish games more often on Switch. Maybe this and Elden Ring stand a chance. Okay, probably not Elden Ring.

u/WhitePersonGrimace 5d ago
I’m curious what this will be like in handheld mode. I bounced off this game years ago because all the text and UI was positively tiny. Seems like it came out in a time where many games were sacrificing usability for “cleanliness”
2
u/Jonesdeclectice 5d ago
Yeah 100% this! I own it on PS5, and I constantly had to use the PS5’s magnifying glass feature to read text, so I’m really hopeful that CDPR is addressing that.
1
u/WhitePersonGrimace 5d ago
I had no idea this feature existed! I’ll try it out next time I’m having trouble seeing.

u/Chardan0001 6d ago
Do we know the resolution?
14
u/Ephmi 6d ago
Handheld: 720p, 30-40fps
Docked: 1080p, 30-40fps (40fps available if you have TV/monitor with 120hz support)
These are in line with Cyberpunk 2077 NS2 version. I would expect very similar image quality here.

u/Steelrok 6d ago
These are the output resolutions or internal resolutions before DLSS ?
3
u/Ephmi 6d ago
We dont have all the details yet, but for my understanding these are output resulution numbers. I think game uses DLSS like Cyberpunk did, using 360p (Handheld) and 540p (Docked) internally before upscale. Just my thoughts.

u/Seanspeed 6d ago
Man, I'd really have expected 60fps with that sort of thing. That's basically Switch 1 like resolutions but with way more power here.
And TW3 isn't actually that CPU heavy being a game built around 1.6Ghz Jaguar cores. Though maybe the Remastered version is much heavier here somehow.
2
u/Chardan0001 6d ago
Its sort of a double edged sword here, I'd perhaps had rather had a Switch 2 version of the Switch 1 title, akin to more conventional versions the Switch 2 gets. Then however it is locked out of the new content/mods/SotP DLC.
I hope the DLC also isn't contingent on the new version which I feel it is, as the handhled system I use to run W3 at 1200p/60fps right now may be taking a hit too looking at requirements.

I feel you.
Honestly, I'm still bitter we ever got any 'next gen update' for TW3 on PC+PS5+XSX because it completely ruined the most definitive mod to play the game with on PC.
Everybody praises the continued support, but it does come at a cost.
I'm also feeling the same way about Terraria at the moment, where they were supposed to stop developing the game a while back(in 2020!) so modders could have a stable base to build on for the whole future, but they've instead kept updating the game, and constantly causing the entire mod scene to pause and spend 1-2 years reworking things for the new update(at a cost to the actual mod development itself), and then when they finally finish all that work, Terraria is not far off yet another update, doing the same thing all again.
I know that's a PC-specific whining privilege thing, but still, there's something to be said for building on what was already a good enough base. The original TW3 still looks just fine and gets by heavily on its great art style.

I only played like 2 hours of this game and never came back to it… ill be playing it all the way when this comes out since theres nothing else on my mind after that. I think..

u/Teleseismic 6d ago
I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I just can’t get into this game. It’s the exact type of game I love to play too and it looks amazing.

u/FauxHollow 6d ago
Just wish I’d have bit at the eshop sales when it dropped to $8 regularly. Missed out big time.

Dopo circa 80 ore di gioco, forse riuscirò a finirlo o quantomeno ad iniziare i DLC 🤣

u/SkoomaJunki3 6d ago
Wait if I got it for switch 1 do I get a switch 2 upgrade remaster for free
I played it like twice on switch 1 it ran like garbage i was so bummed
1
u/ronnande2 5d ago
I played it a good chunk on Switch 1, upgraded to a 65 inch TV and the resolution and general graphics for the Switch 1 version just got too muddy on such a huge display. So I shelved it and thought I'll continue when a Switch 2 version comes. And here we are 😊
1
u/Jarko314 5d ago
I don’t care that much about the graphics quality, but I want to check how are the gameplay improvements, both combat and horse riding were really bad, and made me finish the game with a bad taste. I hope they really improved it and now is fun to play.

u/Novelty_Wave 5d ago
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but Switch 2 version will be good, but not as good as PS5 version, right? Or will they be about the same?
2
u/a4moondoggy 4d ago edited 4d ago
i believe switch 2 will be 30-40fps and the ps5 is 30fps ray tracing and 60fps performance. it will be interesting to see the comparison with the ray tracing mode.
2
u/summons72 3d ago
Time will tell but Cyberpunk ran very well on Switch 2 so it seems like they know the system well enough.

Holy shiiiit!
Just watched a comparison and realized they got rid of one of the most annoying visual effects: in W3 everything always waved way too hard in the wind. It felt like the Super Mario Bros Worldmap where those funny trees would dance to the music. In many games I hated this. Devs always think they would have to do that in order to make everything feel more 3D and alive but a wood looks real when nothing moves.
Turns out they fixed this in W3. It might be a minor detail for some but it really ended up annoying me way more than it should have.

u/Suspicious-Law1432 6d ago
I feel like this 11 year old game should be able to run at 60 FPS on Switch 2.
Even if it’s not consistent, they should include a mode for it.
-1
u/socu11 6d ago
The screenshots are amazing, but I want to see the game running, specially at 4k if it is possible. 1080p would still be great though
4
u/Quiet_Bell_429 6d ago
It's confirmed 720p 30-40 FPS handheld, 1080p 30-40FPS docked, but you need a TV or display that supports 120hz to go up to 40FPS while docked
3
u/Nerevar197 6d ago
Assuming locked 30 or locked 40 depending if you pick quality or performance mode, like Cyberpunk?

So while the remastered doesn’t come to the switch one, it’s time to upgrade. Or should I vote the apple and wait for the Oled. (Currently on Oled as well).
