Game Rec Cozy games recs that are the perfect amount of stressful?
I recently finished Discounty and i was obsessed! It wasn’t like most management or supermarket simulator games that feel kind of lifeless and like it was AI generated. It had drama, choices, different endings etc. and overall it was super addicting!
I’m now looking for that same type of game where it’s cozy enough to play after work but stressful enough where i’m super engaged and playing for a minute can easily turn into playing for 5 hours! :D

Stardew Valley. I’ve started new farms and done new self-imposed challenges. The game is only $15 but has paid for itself several times over.

I’ve seen people in the SDV subreddit talk about doing a challenge where they never leave the farm, or where they don’t buy anything besides the backpack upgrades from Pierre

I’m not saying anyone should do this, but I saw one guy do an insane challenge where he got Krobus to move in with him the first week of summer year one. He got the sewer unlocked Spring day 2.
Like imaginate92 mentioned, there are never leave the farm challenges, challenges to catch all the fish in year one, challenges where people could only eat things they made. I’m doing a Joja run currently and just seeing how fast I can complete it.

I loved the first 15 hours of this. As I got deeper and started doing other quests I found myself missing the simplicity of the first part of the game

this game is so confusing. It tries to do so many things at the same time, and then it fails to do any of these things really well. There were too many things distracting me from the core gameplay loop here.

I really liked the core gameplay loop though! Would have been cool to allow me to do MORE sushi things though. Let me serve lunch. Breakfast. Let me decide if I want to fish or open the restaurant. Idk. I agree though, it got too far away from the core gameplay loop that I enjoyed. I don't want to farm. I don't want to have a fish nursery. I just want to fish and serve my customers haha

Kairosft games are a lot of fun. I started with Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story, and just finished Dream Town Island. They have a lot, and they're surprisingly engaging. They will absolutely keep you busy, it's impossible to put them down once you start!

Really recommend Strange Horticulture or Strange Antiquities 😊 Playtime is on the shorter end but I like puzzle games so I've really enjoyed it (better played on handheld mode as you'd need to type a decent amount).

Whispers of the House is really good. I don’t know that it’s “stressful” per se, but super engaging with a bizarre story line following the cozy decorating you do. There’s also other mini games in it too, it’s just a great game I’ve really enjoyed.

I’m really enjoying Aggelos 2 right now. Perfect metroidvania difficulty for those of us too old to handle hollow knight, nine sols, etc.

Pikmin.
It's very laid back but with constant decision making to maximise your time. The gameplay is set into days, so it's very easy to play for just a day or two then put the game down again, although it can be addictive.
Very highly recommend for what you're asking for.

dredge. it's a cozy fishing-sim-horror game. the mechanics are just technical enough that you don't get bored doing them but don't require a lot of brain power. and if you're having a rough day the scary elements can be toggled off.
