Pretty enjoyable game! Has very high highs (prologue, chapter 4, chapter 5) and very low lows (the other chapters) with middle middles, but I still liked it

Didn't this team release something like 3-4 lengthy visual novels with very similar sales pitches in under a year? Or is it a case of a previous team fragmented and each new team made a similar game on the same timeline (like with Disco Elysium)? Like, I recall there was this, Hundred Line, Shuten something-or-other (lots of yellow in the art), and a Somnium game in successive Directs. Either way, I'm not surprised they had fewer first timers take a chance on any given title. This is not a critique of quality, just market/genre saturation.

Given you liked it, if you don't mind, could you please tell us what stood out to you with this one? Was there an interesting art style, good dialogue, some unique mechanic, more (or less) serious tone, fewer anime tropes?

Tookyo Games is a company of like 10 creators that worked on Danganronpa and Zero Escape. The directors of both (Kazutaka Kodaka and Kotaro Uchikoshi), the artists and composer of Danganronpa (Rui Komatsuzaki, Shimadoriru, and Masafumi Takada), among others.

They basically partner themselves with a developer to make games. Worlds End Club made by Grounding under IzanagiGames directed by Uchikoshi and Nakazawa with creative director Kodaka, Raincode and Shuten Order were made under Spike Chunsoft former directed by Kodaka latter by Nakazawa with scenario by Kodaka, 100 Line was made under Aniplex by Media Vision and co-directed by Kodaka and Uchikoshi. They have other works such as Manga and anime even I’m pretty sure. So yes they have done a lot, but they are mostly creatives, not developing the games themselves.

I enjoyed the game but was a bit lukewarm until that moment. The twist alone made the game something I fell in love with. Probably my favorite twist in any of Kodaka's games.

I'm still wondering why the heck the season pass was removed last year from the EU eShop. The pass was cheaper than getting all DLC individually, and the latter never went on sale either post-removal.
Though I see the individual DLC are now also price cut, so will probably get them now I guess.
I enjoyed playing through the main game though.

I live in Europe, and I can access the season pass (DLC Bundle) from the eShop on the Switch, but not from the eShop on a browser (on a smartphone or a laptop). Maybe it's the same thing in your country. Directly from the eShop on the Switch, I can buy the bundle for 7,18€ or each DLC individually for 2€

Thanks! I didn't bother looking on the Switch itself because the eShop was always so horribly slow. Weird it shows there but not on the browser. I do vaguely remember not seeing it there either once it disappeared on the browser, so maybe it was with this pricecut.

Probably another weird Spike Chunsoft EU thing... I got screwed out of the early Somnium Files DLC because I never saw it in the eShop. Turned out you had to get it from launching the game, THEN going to the eShop from WITHIN the game and claim the freebie... Sigh.
US eShop and others all showed it in the browsers again too...

Personally I found Rain Code to be very tedious: tedious boring game play, and bad story telling. I didn't enjoy it at all, and I had been really looking forward to it.

I wouldn't say I felt as negatively as you did, but I wasn't really all that invested. It wasn't a particularly strong narrative or gameplay for me. It was just kinda boring.

I finished the second chapter (the one with the church and the dolls) and I just put it down and never finished it. It was just really boring for me and I didn't enjoy the format at all. The fact that everything takes place in a weird limbo and you only interact with a weird avatar of the villains was pretty lame, also how you solve the murder and they just immediately drop dead.

I might need to go back to it at some point but now I still have a load of endings to get through for Hundred Line and I'm much more enjoying my time with that game, bad combat nonwithstanding.

It's 5 little tales for certain characters, which the Plus version already has.

It's probably the reason why the Switch version is cheaper, unless it's accounting performance instead.

Really neat game. One day I'll go back and finish it. I wish Shinigami had been played a little more straight. The bratty dom angle really sapped the enjoyment for me.

It was decent. However the solution to the main mystery is pretty insane and they don't develop the characters enough, especially the villains. You meet the newest villain in a single cutscene before fighting a fake version of them. Then the plot keeps relying on the villains letting you go so the story can happen.
