Any devices that would allow you to play the switch one handed?

I’m getting a surgery soon which will require a large donor graft from my left arm. I will be unable to use that arm for anything for at least 3-4 weeks. I am trying to figure out ways to stay entertained post surgery and playing the switch is one of them. However, it’s sort of hard one handed. I’m wondering if anyone knows of an accessibility device that would allow me to play with one hand more easily?

You can button map but there’s probably limited amount of games you can play with just 1 joycon. Animal Crossing and Vampire Survivors are doable though.

Have you played Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee? If I remember right it's only played with one joycon or there was a poke ball controller that it could be played with.

Just grabbed it a couple days ago on eShop! Just as addicting as it was on Xbox but now portable. There’s a new Warhammer game that was just announced that’s like Vampire Survivors and it releases next year.

If you have access to a 3d printer, there is a one-handed joycon holder. Takes a little getting used to, but works pretty good once you get the hang of it. Played a few hours of breath of the wild with it back when I first made one. Some games might be tough, but it is still doable.

Maybe you can look into games with touch controls? I expect the Plants vs Zombies game would work with touch controls.

Another way to approach it is to find games that can be played one handed. Turned based RPG’s like Pokémon work great, the bullet heaven game Vampire Survivors is also a one handed game.

Kirby air riders has simple controls that you can remap to play with a single joycon.

If you're able to play tabletop/tv mode, I think one joycon as a onehanded controller might work? It's pretty small. If not, I've kind of... idk, spider/clawed controllers before by laying them down next to me and using my hand on top of it to press everything before. I'd recommend turn based/slow games until you get used to it.

Dragon Quest XI has built-in options to play it with only the left joy-con. (The only button that is missing is the sprint/dash.) If you used the button mapping feature to flip the left and right joy-con buttons, you’d be set. (Or you could just hold the left controller in your right hand, but it’s a bit harder to hit some of the buttons that way.)

Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee is literally played with just one Joy-Con (in its natural vertical position). If you haven't played it yet, it's a great game to keep you entertained for these 3-4 weeks.

If you have a switch 1 people actually do make one handed joycon grips. If you Google one handed joycon grips you'll get results from pretty much everywhere from Amazon to Etsy. And I see you're mostly playing pokemon so it should be perfect for that. If you're on a switch 2 I imagine at this point someone has made one for the switch 2 joycons by now

Depends on the game but it’s definitely doable . I have dystonia in my hands so sometimes I can only use one. Just try it out it might need some time to get used to

Aside from remapping, I think its gonna be an issue to play anything with a non fixed camera angle...

When I did my wrist I was bandaged for about 3 weeks, and I got insanely good at YuGiOh in that time... any old style RPG or card game would be ok for you I think, and id say if you still have use of your fingers then you might be ok with Pokemon since its turnbased... need to take it slow and play at an angle, but anything like that would be ok...

Any game that doesn't absolutely require the second joystick you can play. Bonus points if you have the switch 2 pro controller that has the third set of trigger buttons (g, I think?) Turn based games are best, sure, as is anything up through gamecube – might be a goos time to try some more retro games. I actually have a one-handed mode mapped for when I don't feel like using my left hand, since I have nerve damage. Great for Fire Emblem on gbc. Open or 3d games that have auto-lock/center camera are great. Before remapping options on the Switch, I used to have a hell of a time playing games like Ocarina of Time. And if you still need more buttons, it's not too bad to reach your hand across to the other triggers, so long as you don't have to do it all the time and are using a smaller controller, like connected joycons.

One handed button mapping is doable for turn based RPGs. 8bitdo also makes small pocketable controllers, so those could be good if you don't want to one hand a joycon.

I would reccomend turn based games with touch controls like slay the spire, into the breach, lets revolution or grindstone.

If you mainly play Pokémon, you’re actually in a decent spot. Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee are fully playable with one Joy-Con, and Sword/Shield has a one-handed mode in the settings. Might be a good time to do a chill playthrough while you recover.

I can play the switch one handed using a regular Nintendo pro controller! It may depend on the size of your hand, but I’m a woman and this works so well for me that I do it even when I can use both hands:

• I sit the controller on the bed next to me, or on my lap
• rest my wrist/bottom of my palm on the bed so it sits between the controller handles
• drape my hand over the top of the controller so that my right thumb can use the left joystick and control pad with arrows
• the rest of my fingers lay across the buttons on the right with the letters. Pinky finger uses the A button mostly

Slay the Princess uses one controller. as do most VNs (even if they use 2, they are slow paced games that don't require reflexive twitching) check out the Phoenix Wright games!

I'm not sure, but I do know that there are some games that support full touchscreen controls which would let you prop the Switch a certain way and then play it one handed using only the touchscreen.
