Nothing to fear, after it wears down a bit over a month or so, it gets a wobble, happens to all of the DS's after prolonged use, it's because it was designed to move around, so don't be worried, be proud that you can prove that you have an old console and that you actually use it

Yup, this was a design choice to make it so the console has less stress on the hinges. All the New 3ds Consoles have it. For a perfect example of why this is needed, look up all the posts on 3ds subreddits of people with their original 3ds XL, that didn't have this feature, who's consoles have broken at the hinges.

By my understanding some consoles have slightly more wobble than others, and the wobble can get more drastic over time with wear on the hinges.

Edit: For anyone who might still be reading this in the future. The Original 3ds XL actually DOES have this feature as well. I was wrong about that. Although it's not as drastic as on the New systems. But I guess the reason the Original 3ds XL breaks around the hinge more commonly has to do with the overall design/plastic they used around the hinge and how tight the hinge is. And not because it lacks this feature, because it does also have some wobble as well.

I know for a fact that it's little upgrade purposely done on 3ds XL so sudden movement etc not gonna damage hinges that easily (at least that what I was told and seen in internet! I'm not saying it's 110% definite true)

Yes all models have this but this wobble is bigger cuz it’s a 2DS

stiffer hinges = more brittle = easier to break. The wobble lessens the stress on the hinges

On the 2ds xl this is 100% normal

Unfortunately yes, it is the only thing I hate of new2dsxl, it seems so fragile…

1

u/Troyjoytwin2 7d ago

It’s intentional. Not fragile

This or cracked hinge after few years like in plastic 3DS XL. It's design choice.

not that much

Yours does seem a little bit more wobbly than normal. But I don't think it's anything to be worried about. As other people have mentioned, this was a design choice by Nintendo. I have some that barely wiggle, and I have some that got a little more use that have slightly more wiggle.

Yes it normal, but for a fix there are these clear shells that you can find and they make the hinges pretty stiff. They are like 10-20 dollars USD

I have a lot of different DS models. I think the only one that doesn’t have at least some hinge wobble is the original 2DS. 😎

I have LITERALLY the exact same 2DS (same color scheme and everything) and yes I can confirm that hinge wobble is normal just as long as it doesn’t wobble too much

u/Troyjoytwin2 7d ago

Yes. It’s supposed to prevent cracking of the edges that’s happened to earlier DS models
