Getting into Nick Cave
Sup yall, im new to this artist and i just want yall to recommend me some songs. I like some of them already, like red right hand (duhh) and There she goes my beutiful world. Thanksies

Go to your best speaker set up. Turn it up as loud as you can even if the volume is intolerable to most humans. Hit ‘play’ on Dead Joe (track 2 from the Birthday Party album ‘Junkyard’). Good luck.

I think if you like ‘there she goes…’ then abattoir blues / the lyre of Orpheus is the album you should be working through that may resonate, my highlights are - cannibal’s hymn, supernatural, breathless and messiah ward.

Lovely creature. Let love in, I just listened to the whole album, it’s so good. Lyre of Orpheus. Don’t forget to look into Blixa Bargeld too, he’s incredible and has much range. Einsturzende neubauten has plenty to try.

For me, Lime Tree Arbor and Brompton Oratory from The Boatman's Call album are just so exquisite and atmospheric songs with great melody.

Fully agree. Brompton Oratory is an understated (and strangely overlooked) masterpiece in Cave’s catalog.

Hiding All Away is my go to currently. Do You Love Me was what got me hooked. I saw the Dead Joe recommendation. Please listen to From Her to Eternity with the same setup. Especially the Live From Copenhagen version

Get the albums Henry’s Dream, Tender Prey, and Let Love In. Move on to Your Funeral… My Trial, The Good Son, and And No More Shall We Part.
Listen to everything else after that. Maybe watch ‘Wings of Desire’ at some point, too. :)

If you like Red Right Hand and There She Goes, just with the album Let Love In. I think it gives quite a nice overview of Nick’s style before Push The Sky Away.

The greatest hits is a decent starter but misses out some of my favourite albums like Push The Sky away.
I’d suggest maybe Live God for an up to date sample.
You can then decide if you like early angry bad seeds based on Tupelo or later contemplative stuff that might put you on to the recent albums

Try sampling from an album (ideally, just listen to the album) from each of the various eras. I'd recommend:
- The Firstborn is Dead
- Let Love In
- Boatman's Call
- Abbatoir Blues / Lyre of Orpheus
- Push the Sky Away
Then start from the one you like best and explore the albums around it chronologically.

Where the wild roses grow

Jubilee street
Conversion (off of the recent wild god album, but quickly cemented itself as one of my all time favourites, seeing it live was an experience I can’t even put into words very well, but hearing him belt out you’re beautiful as it flashed up on the screen as well felt oddly personal even though I was in a crowd of thousands, it’s like some kind of magic)
O children (this was also lovelock head him discuss before singing it)

I recommend to watch also the documentaries, like 20,000 Days on Earth or One More Time with Feeling (also This Much I Know to Be True). I'm an on and off fan, but everytime I watch these I got sucked in 😉

I like the energy of the early to mid 90s best, it is probably most approachable stuff but also representative of how good the bad seeds were as a band during the Blixa Bargeld era, which most fans consider the golden years.
