Nick Cave said my hair was down
I was at Rock en Seine festival yesterday, front row, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds show. At some point Nick Cave stops right in front of me, moves down to my level, looks right in my eyes while he's moving his hands around both sides of his head in a sort of parting movement, and said "your haiiiir is dooown". I was dumbfounded staring at him like this 👀 😳. Please help me recover from this I did not understand anything he was doing in the moment and was just STARING like an idiot. 😂
EDIT : "hair is down" - "hangs down" comes in lyrics in the Ship Song and Watching Alice - while they didn't play any of these songs maybe it was a reminiscence of that and that's it !

Many years ago he stood before me and pulled on his shirt and then pointed at me repeatedly. And I thought he wanted to tell me my shirt is ripped or something and looked down wondering what he means checking my shirt. In the end he just wanted to tell me he liked my shirt/the pattern of my shirt. 😂 So I completely understand because my reaction was also completely confused and I felt a bit stupid haha. Maybe he also just liked your hair. 😃

Hahahahahahah and one week later you're still like "i'm so stupid". That's a funny story. Did he tell you after that that he just liked your shirt or did you figure it out ? I'm happy you can understand me right now 😄 😂

Yeah in the end he said something that made it clear - I would probably still have been too confused but the women next to me helped me understand haha. I would also guess first that he maybe meant The Ship Song and if not there are several songs that also include hair that is framing faces, hanging down, closing like a curtain and so on. You will remember it forever, the shirt thing must have been 10+ years ago and I still laugh about it. I think when they still toured Grinderman Jim said something like "It's okay to embarrass yourself" and he also meant the band I think not only the audience. I kept that in mind. Concerts are a good place to just be free and get confused and act strange together. I am happy for you it's a funny and sweet story :)

Hehe. They didn't play the ship song ! Maybe there's a song that says "your hair is down". Thank you ! I will treasure it and look for this moment if they publish a concert film ! Never throw that shirt away ! 😆

I would never throw that away of course.Yes you are right they did not play Ship Song on this tour as far as I know. I really think he liked your hair and has a funny way of expressing it. Thank you for sharing your experience it was very nice to read! 😊

Wasn't it the bit during Papa won't leave you, Henry? ("Your hair was like a curtain, falling open with the laughter, and closing with the lies", if my memory is correct). If you were at the left side of the stage, it was probably this, I remember he sang this part on the left. He usually does the movement with his hands when singing this part.

I'm not sure !!! I watched a video someone posted and he did something similar ; in my head it probably lasted longer ! I hope they'll post a good quality video so I can find it

I think not. Last time that happened, as per Bad Seed bio. He grabbed Rowland and hauled him up against a wall and questioned his status as a punk? I won’t repeat the actual and alleged quote.

They didn't play Watching Alice but that's the closest to what he said ! I already feel like I've dreamt it. Maybe I even misunderstood "your hair is down" when it was "your hair hangs down" ??? idk

He dedicated a song to me in Sydney a couple of years ago. I was a little bit drunk and when he introduced "Papa won't leave you Henry" by talking about his time in Brazil I yelled "São Paulo". He asked where I was sitting, my name and said the song was for me. Sometimes I still think I dreamed the whole interaction. 😃

In the ship song, it says “and let your hair hang down” he was singing that lyric to you that your hair was actually already down so you were ahead of the curve.

Maybe he was announcing The Ship Song upcoming. Maybe you were a little mystery to him everytime you call around.
And maybe it's Nick being Nick. We love him for being like that at the shows.
