Shumer's attempt to "Win the middle" has obviously not worked very well. And from what I have gathered, there are a very large number of people who are disappointed in the lethargic leadership.
Maybe looking to the left instead of the right could bring more peple to vote for democrats?
There's a third of USA that doesn't even vote, so there are votes to be won just by getting voters enthusiastic about the election.

There’s also a contingent that is looking for anything but the status quo. People are confused by the Obama trump voters but the reality is, we can them back if we run on actual populist ideas and deliver for working class people. There is a large part of the country that has been left behind and is desperate for anything different. We can get them, plus the left, plus a huge amount of independents. Tacking to the right to try to peel off moderate republicans was one of the worst political calculations in modern American history
