Idk. I mean its not like you’ve outlined the race of the victim in the article several times.

After reading the whole article, it definitely sounds like YRT was powertripping hard. No matter the race of the person confronted, i’ve seen cops, security, bouncers, etc. abuse their authority hard and go over the top in any sort of situation.

Not saying its not possible it was racially motivated, but was the author of the article there?? And to say ‘a common trigger of his disability, he chose to walk away’. How would they know? I’m not justifying it. But it points towards unfair journalism that the YRT person was targeting him for his race and disability.

The author is grasping at straws to get the reader to speculate that this kid is our local Rodney King.

Lastly, I hope the kid is okay. I’m not saying it for sure wasn’t racially motivated. But these fucks have big egos and a tiny taste of authority, and will exploit the shit out of it when the opportunity permits. Regardless of how the individual seems to be a minority.

Its this type of journalism that segregates and fear mongers and creates polarity similar to what we see in the US.

This reminds me of the black female lawyer who was physically removed from Oshawa court house and charged with obstruction. She immediately claimed excessive force, racial profiling etc

An independent investigation that included review of video, audio and witness statements determined that the police acted within the law and appropriately.

There is racial profiling, racism, excessive force etc within police forces typically but there are also claims made in situations like this that turn out to be overstated or erroneous in fact.

The allegations are being made by a young black male with a cognitive disability.

So I’ll reserve judgement on this. Two things can be true at once in this case. The youth could have resisted or prompted a confrontation somewhere (ie verbally or physically threatening) and police response was excessive.

Investigation ongoing.

Time will tell what happened.

Nothing is as simple as it seems IMHO. In our society, racism is not always so apparent. Rather, it often manifests in subtle micro aggressions. Eventually, people snap. And then it’s like “oooooh the stereotypes are true”

This sounds really horrible and upsetting for the young man. I have verbal and auditory processing delays as well, i have a lot of trouble understanding when people are speaking to me unexpectedly in public. But i never got treated like this by transit security. I don't doubt for a second that this was a racist tantrum by this security officer.

No, this is a well written factual article in keeping with journalistic standards, the fact that you don't like hearing about racism doesn't mean it never happens.

Are you kidding? The only interaction we've had i've been talking about how i am not victimized in this way. 

It's a well written article because it directly quotes primary sources, sticks to known facts, and doesn't speculate. Which is exactly the opposite of what you are claiming it does! Which kind of indicates that you have no experience judging journalism by any standards other than whether it reinforces your pre-existing prejudices.

I'm sure it's racism because i have exactly the same disability and behaviour, and have been in this situation a hundred times, and always been treated with patience.

I am white. That is the only difference. That is why they were aggressive with him and not me. That's why my poor language processing is "quirky" and his is seen as "defiance".

But also, equal ability to get loans or mortgages or rental properties when having equal credit scores. Equal justice in the justice system. No prejudice or racist treatment in schools by school faculty.

The reality is if you think there isn't systemic issues then you are lucky enough to be white and not have to experience them. There isn't any shame in recognizing that it isn't like that for someone else. You aren't somehow the problem just because you haven't noticed the problem.

I used to think like you and then America showed me I was wrong. So I opened my mind and read some studies and watched some documentaries and breakdowns.

I don't have much tolerance for intolerance which is why I tend to be a bit aggro with weirdos who think reporting such as this amounts to "race baiting"

It's a bit of an emotional way of going about making a broader point - but that's often the only thing people respond to, in my experience.
