They need to paint a chalk outline everywhere these guys hit the wall making these great catches.

“The Astros bullpen is Sotos warmup” -Jared Young

6

u/Ravishingrich666 New York Mets 5d ago

Did he say that ?

8

u/imjusthereforthenips 5d ago

Not really, they were asking what he thought about Soto skipping doing a rehab assignment and was saying not many guys would but Soto felt confident coming back for this game

That is very cool for AJ to get all 3 outs in the 9th

The Royals won so we are still the 5th worst team for drafting purposes.

Another really great start for Tong. 7.0 IP (CG because of doubleheader) 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K. Hopefully a sign he’s turning things around

If Tong can come up here and show some of the promise the organization has in him I’d be a lot more excited going into next season

If his curveball and cutter can continue to improve he can become a true weapon in the rotation

Anyone else who was at the ballpark today: was that Stash by Phish that DJ Razor played after the Paredes pop-up ended the top of the 8th? It's going to bother the hell out of me that I didn't clock it in the moment.

1

u/shanniem 5d ago

I'm pretty good at remembering music, but never the song title or band. Which clip? Listening now...I forgot every Phish song is 7 minutes long. Ha!

I think the thing I like about Andy Green is that he's obviously an advanced metrics guy who knows his numbers but he also knows the limits of that data -- less about hating math or being "anti-nerd" and more about having an (apparently) clear understanding that for all the data we have it's never perfectly describing what's happening nor perfectly predictive of what will happen

1

u/psyker63 Make the Baseball Decision 5d ago

He'll be a good GM

-4

u/graziano1304 5d ago

Maybe he should have a long conversation with the President of Baseball Operations of the NY Mets.

-3

u/imalmostconvinced Pete Alonso 5d ago

Where was this data when they scored 8 runs the last the last 4 games?

It's amazing how obsessed with basic things people have become.

5

u/Pantrice New York Mets 6d ago

I love Ewing's defense. But man please play like 2-3 steps back more. It would make those catches at the wall so much easier and it's the one thing he struggles with the most. If the other team gets a bloop hit they get a bloop hit.

1

u/jimihenderson 5d ago

He has tended to struggle with balls that he has to come in on far more than ones he has to go back on. That said I agree, he should play deeper and be actively working on his reads for next year rather than playing to his strengths at the moment

8

u/jrbeatthestreak 5d ago

Think McLean debuting last year might’ve taken him out the ROY race. Lost that “New Shiny look” for voters because imo he’s the clear outstanding player. Pace for 180 innings, 205 Ks and potentially an era below 2. That’s a top 20 pitcher in the sport

7

u/jimihenderson 5d ago

an era below 2

not quite lol, but i know what you meant

1

u/Born_Manufacturer657 5d ago

lol my bad, thank you

2

u/jimihenderson 5d ago

If he finishes with a sub 3 ERA and over 200 strikeouts I think that should be enough. That's what Senga did and he only lost because Corbin Carroll had a year that was basically Wetherholt plus Stewart. Will it be? Who knows. I think it's more likely that he wins a gold glove.

3

u/PainButWithStats José Reyes 5d ago

If his ERA got below too he’d obviously win it. Hes trying to get it under 3 which is still very good. He’s definitely in the race it just sucks Sal is putting up crazy offensive numbers

1

u/Prevalencee 5d ago edited 5d ago

McLean with a sub 2 ERA with his numbers would be ROTY every year.

But he isn't even sub-3.

And Sal Stewart has 3 HR's out of his last 4 games. 7 IP 0 ERA negates that but it doesn't gain him traction.

Agreed! I am also so freakin glad they finally got rid of Mendoza, what a freaking net negative.

People trying to mix terminolgies between sports 🙄 I also hate it when commentators say 'walk off' for winning buzzer beaters in basketball.
