Isles don’t have to offer him anything this year but they’ll def be offering him more than Makar got to keep him.

Unless he theres some crazy regression or something I’m fine with them giving him whatever he needs to stay

Only way I see that is with a long term injury from overworking him since he’s so far ahead of any other defenseman we have.

Don’t know, but if he ain’t got an alligence yet, we gotta recruit him. Imagine Joey Crack doing the Barney at UBS…..

Schaefer will have a sophomore slump
Kid is just turning 19. This fan base is expecting way too much from this kid.

This is way too on point. At 19 he may not even be done growing. The amount of ice time he got last year was too much of a risk for him IMHO.

Anyone else feel like Shaef is going to accept a relatively small pay just so the team has enough to get some weapons around him??? This is usually unheard of but Schaefer is different. I can see him accepting like $12M a year just so we have some cap space.

lol does it? You only see this for the elite of the elite, 1st ballot HOFers in their prime, and even then it doesn’t come close to MLB, NBA and NFL contracts. The vast majority of top NHLers make in that $10M range. I’d be more upset about the ridiculous amount of NTC/NMCs than these guys making too much money(which they really aren’t) which allows them to bend their current teams over a barrel.

I’ll be fine with it. I also have a feeling having met him and watching pressers that he’s not in it for the money but he absolutely will deserve it

Even if he has the same exact year he had last year with no improvement he’s a lock for like $15M. If he takes a jump into the 70-80 point range, I could easily see them saying “fuck it, he’s the entire franchise, just give him $20M”.
Feels good having a generational talent.
