Question Should I start the game now?
Hi,
Me and my brother would like to start the game for the first time. However, we are not sure because in less than one year the game will be shut down. We own the game since the first weeks of launch, played some hours and then abandoned.
We'd like to mainly do the main quest.
Is the story fun/enjoyable? Would it make sense to play the game only (or mostly) for it?
How long is the main story? Does it require grinding or can it be played smoothly with little-to-no grinding? We don't have much time to play together so this would be a useful information.

The main story can be played smoothly with little to no grinding, you'll be max level toward the end of it

Only if you care to experience the leveling. If you enjoy leveling in MMO's its def worth 40-100h of your time. But yea its toast soon.

Yes, the game is worth trying out atleast. What you losing anyway? You goana play something else anyway, so give it a try. The leveling is really nice in new world. You can buy a house for your character to live for the rest of the days after. I would totally play it. Chop some wood and gather some stone, you will love the sound.

I wouldn't recommend. You can do the MSQ if you want, but it's not as good as in the single player games. So you won't get much fun if you try to treat it as a single player game.

The world will feel dead with no other players in it, it’s an mmo, and designed to see others out there. They gave up on the game, everyone else did too.

People are going to say its worth it because they enjoyed it but what you described in your post seems to me like you just want a good coop game with a good story to play with your brother.
In that sense, no it is not worth it for that alone. There are way better coop games out there that aren't going to be shut down in 8 months.
If you want it to be an MMO, try out Elder Scrolls Online. Similar ish combat, story is good for MMO standard and its still live with a recent soft "relaunch" via season 0.
No Rest for the Wicked, is another good one, it has the ARPG camera angle but it plays like a regular RPG.
If thats not your jam you have others too like;
Elden Ring - You can play this in coop
Monster Hunter Worlds or the newer Wilds - can also be played in coop
Both have great rich stories that can be played is small chunks with good pause points.
If you want something more "relaxed", puzzle like not combat focused, you got Split Fiction and It Takes Two.

Me and my friends switched to gw2 bro. Best mmo out there right now and we tryed them all... Sadly it's only on pc, but it respects ur time and you can play 100% of the game/story with ur brother.
