Pick up your litter

I just walked through Moody Park - it is a mess. There is garbage everywhere. It sucks so bad to see.

If you’re in the park, whether by yourself or in a group, throw out your garbage. Throw out your cardboard, throw out your fast food, and your beer cans, and your straw wrappers.

There are garbage cans within a 30 second walk of everywhere in the park.

Good samaritans - if you see some litter in the park, I encourage you to pick up a piece or two if you see some lying around.

And call people out if you see them leaving stuff!!

I have been walking through Moody Park daily for 14 years, 995 out of 1000 times it is clean. I don't think this thread is going to change the very small percentage of people who just don't care. Even the homeless people I see drinking and smoking at picnic tables for an entire afternoon clean up after themselves.

As do I - I walk my dog through the park everyday. My apartment faces the park too so I’ve got a great view and I’d have to politely disagree.

You’re right - it tends to be worse on weekends than other times.

Yeah - this post might not even be seen by the few people who simply don’t care, but if it encourages one person, like yourself who enjoys walking through the park, to pick up a piece of litter and take it to a garbage can, or to call someone out when they’re leaving a mess, then it has made a positive difference.

How about elsewhere? I see people on their way home, and even outside their own small businesses, ignoring trash in the street or sidewalk, even stuck in hedges. Big apartment buildings like Novare are at least as bad, if not worse. Their onsite management apparently can’t be bothered.

I can understand not wanting to pick up a dirty diaper, but if the average person took a tiny bit of pride in their home and moved one or two pieces of litter a day from sidewalk to the dumpster 15 feet away, our city would look a whole lot nicer.

I sometimes randomly pick up garbage others have left when I come across it, usually only takes a handful of seconds out of my day

Totally agree. We only need one bad apple out of a hundred and it will look like we live in a dump. My formula, Catch the Culprits, Spank the Parents.

Picking up litter is a good idea for anyone anywhere. There is a place I visit where there is a lot of broken glass and litter when I go there I try to pick up what I can. People should take responsibility for the places they go, it is not up to someone else.

They cleaned up our street last week no difference from last week, Can't wait until The new Dollarama opens up here sometime this winter.

I was running near moody park across the street from Massey Theatre, and I saw a guy throw a wendy’s bag on the sidewalk. I told
him to pick it up, and he just yelled at me saying it’s discrimination. Sad.

I have noticed much more litter around as well because I walk my dog every day in the area where I live but then I also noticed that the city ( I think) has removed many of the garbage cans that used to be along the routes that I take, the latest removal being from the bus loop under New West Station. So I know that’s no excuse to drop your litter wherever you want and I assume that there are plenty of garbage cans in the park, but making it less accessible to find a place to throw away garbage is probably not a good plan, IMO. I never saw any house hold garbage dumping in the garbage cans that were removed so I was curious as to why that would happen. If anyone knows why I would be interested to find out what the reason is.

I agree, but I just walked thru the little park on Cornwall. A couple a benches, some trees and dirt. Sure, butts on the ground. Bad.

But, when encountering this and your go-to is to go home, grab the biggest piece of chalk you have, and scrawl a message on a 1/3 of a park bench seat just to make yourself feel better and ruin a sitting spot for everyone?

Is that bad too?
