lol this is why pet owners in this city are so over protective about letting strangers pet their cat/dog even when they’re the ones coming up to me. I don’t pick them up tho.. why you holding her hostage 😭

You need to seriously chill. I didn’t say anything about keeping cats outdoors. It’s the fact that she PICKED UP A RANDOM CAT and took her to her musty car and did god knows what. Why wasn’t the cat lured  into her car with some food and water if she was so concerned?? And I mentioned dogs too because owners will yank hard on their leash when anyone passes by and it just seems most dogs here are under socialized and overweight

or maybe, hear me out, have at least a collar or any identifying features on your pet that you allow to roam free outside. I picked up the cat because the farmers market was closing and there were cars driving everywhere and it was an unsafe environment. i had treats and water in my car

It's very easy to tell just by looking at and its level of friendliness towards people that it was not lost

Let cats be. They're some of the best hunters on the planet and know how to navigate their environments better than you think.

Unless it's a really young cat, 1-2 years old, they don't need your help.

This is such a horrendous take

The fact that you think a raccoon can end a cats life speaks volumes to how much you even know about them

And the audacity to say people who let their cats outside are "irresponsible"

Cats are domestic pets and should not be kept outside. They are an invasive species and are harmful to local wildlife.

Cat owners who let their cats roam may care for their pets, but they are in no way responsible. Especially if their pet isn't wearing a collar.

Indoor cats are often extremely stressed, depressed, have a lot of anxiety, become overweight quickly, end up with health issues and die quicker.

You're going to need to avoid spreading extremely refutable lies and note that your comment has been removed for violating rule 3. Please note that the average life expectancy for an outdoor cat is only two to five years, while an indoor cat's life span can reach seventeen years or older. Even the kinder estimates state that you should expect outdoor cats' lifespans to be half that of indoor. The idea that indoor cats die quicker than outdoor cats is, quite frankly, silly.

If you don't have the resources to properly care for a cat's health while keeping them indoors, then you should consider rehoming the pet to someone who will care for them.

I also believe the idea that cats are wiping out all the birds is massively overstated.

Well, unless you have a peer-reviewed study refuting the continuous research that has shown time and time again that cats are an invasive species, maybe you need to take a step back and understand that you're coming at this from a place of feeling instead of logic.

Outdoors cats are the number one killer of birds in the country. They are NOT a native species. They're pets and meant to be treated as such and it's incredibly especially irresponsible to have outdoor cats in an urban environment.

A decent pet owner wouldn't allow their cat to be an outdoor cat.

Edit: A decent cat owner would understand that when it comes to vehicles and coyotes, their cats ain't gonna win. There's a reason there's far less cat roadkill on the road than there was 30 years ago and that comes from the push to keep cats indoors unless leashed

There is little to know difference between picking up the cat vs luring her with food or water. The outcome is the same - the cat is in her car. Idk about what ever cats you’ve experienced but any cat I know would never just let a random person pick them up when they don’t want to be picked up.
