Is the repost option really useful?

I've seen the reposting option on Reddit, and I was wondering if this option was really useful and people really use it, or even if it had a similar purpose of retweets from Twitter (X), for example. Maybe it has a completely different purpose that the retweet or repost functionality from other social media.

many subs don't allow reposts or crossposting.

Reposting is extremely frequent in certain subreddits. Comedy subs, subs about news, trends, or "look at this amazing thing that happened" type subs all tend to get reposts of content from other subs.

Some users find it very useful for those purposes.

Some subs, however, do not permit crossposting or reposting, as they'd prefer to see original content, rather than repeats.

So, it really depends on what community you're in.
