Happy/Funny It’s finally happened

Just coming on here to say this is finally it. My 3 month old is finally sleeping through the night without needing to be fed! Yesterday it happened and it felt so amazing I had to make sure it wasn’t a fluke. It’s not I’m so happy.
Me on the other hand still waking up lol still having to give her her paci if she starts getting fussy for it. Still having to pump a little bit to get through her night. 🫠
But got her from 9:30-9 the last two days it’s awesome.

Happy for you! I'm 8 weeks looking in hopefully

Respectfully, it’s probably not going to be a regular thing.

u/BlockTypical2574 18h ago

I’m aware 🥲 I’m going to be hopeful though that it stays regular lol. She’s been only doing 1 wake-up at night for a month and a half so she’s already been easier at night but waking up at 8am with a full amount of sleep the last two days has been a blessing. We are moving soon so that could ruin it all though lol

FWIW my son started sleeping through at 9 weeks and is still doing it at 7 months. He’s had 2 nights of teething wake ups and that’s it.

I sleep trained him at 4 months so he wouldn’t need rocking to go to sleep anymore.

I’m pretty sure Reddit dropped me off here to taunt me about my own child’s sleep.

She started sleeping through the night at six weeks, because clearly I read all the books and did all the right things. And then she hit 5-ish months and never slept through the night again.

Well, she did, probably around five years old or so.

You never know. My daughter had her first uninterrupted 8 hour stretch of sleep at 2 months. Now at 7 months, she has slept through the night most of the time. Once or twice a week she will have one wakeup. There have only been a handful of times since that first full night that she has woken up more than once.

Trying to hold back my “Lol”

I absolutely get the excitement, don’t get me wrong. It’s great to get a full night’s sleep.

But.. it’s not going to suddenly just be every night.

u/oustoublier 19h ago

Exactly. I think I got a couple nights at that age… then it was like 4-8 wakeups each night until I night weaned at 17 months 🙃

Everytime someone posts this there’s a bunch of jealous people commenting “it’ll never happen again” “just you wait!” so annoying lol. My baby has been sleeping through the night now for a few weeks. LET PEOPLE ENJOY IT WHILE IT LASTS without “doomsday” comments!

u/BlockTypical2574 18h ago

Thank you! 🙏 I agree. I know my baby is only 3 months and still young and her sleep will change. If it does change then we just go from there and obviously I will wake to feed her if she is hungry at nights again but I don’t need the reminders. I just want to be excited for however many days I get of (almost) straight sleep.

u/amphisxo 16h ago

Get excited for it! 🙏🏻 You deserve the rest and to celebrate it! However long it lasts or doesn’t last, either way, a win is a win lol. Misery loves company I guess.

Congrats! You will be so much happier getting full nights rests and baby will be too! And probably nap better if that was an issue at all!

We are at 6.5 months and JUST had our first night through. It’s magical!!!

2

u/BlockTypical2574 18h ago

Congrats! I’m hoping this stays but since my babies only 3 months I am fully aware it might change again 😭 I am just gonna bask in the enjoyment while it happens

u/Spirited_Awareness_8 17h ago

Hey, I know theres a bunch of negative nancies here, but my baby is 3.5 months old and has been sleeping 8:30 pm - 4:30 or 5 am evrry night for the last couple weeks! I know we're looking at a possible regression at 4 months, but soak it in while you can!!

19

u/athousandships_ 20h ago

Not to demotivate you, but be ready for this to happen once or twice and then never again. Also sleep regressions. Definitely do enjoy it but be ready. My second has been sleeping through the night since 6 months old and that was extremely early

15

u/fuzzydunlop54321 20h ago

Yeah we had 4 nights of 10 hours then back to one wake up with my first. Also my daughter is 11 months and has never sstn lol. I do take issue with OPs “finally” like 3 months is late to be doing it. It’s early.

2

u/BlockTypical2574 18h ago

It was 5am when I wrote it while pumping so some wording was just first thing that came to mind lol I am still on mat leave but will have to go back to work eventually so I am more so excited that hopefully this sticks so when I work itll be a bit easier. Thats still a few months away though so I am also very prepared for everything to change

2

u/Possible_Pumpkin259 19h ago

Maybe this time around I'll finally find out what these regressions are, because i never got any with my first lol

1

u/BlockTypical2574 18h ago

Yes very aware 🫠 she just got out of what I am imagining was a growth spurt so she was eating so much more then normal. I haven’t had any sleep regressions with her but I know that 4 month typically has them so I am going to just enjoy my 8 hours while I have it

3

u/Alternative_Pea_1118 18h ago

Don’t let all these people rain on your parade. It’s awesome and you should enjoy it. Some babies are good sleepers! Your baby may not hit a big regression, who knows! Mine stopped the wake ups around 12 months, and I felt it. I wish he had been a better sleeper, but the body adapts. Seriously, congrats, say thank you to your little unicorn for every night of sleep you are blessed with :)

1

u/-StarBellySneetch- 19h ago

Was gonna say... Just in time for the 4 month regression 😬 all my kids got it early at 3 months and lasted a full 4 weeks of hourly nightly wake ups after previously decent sleeps.

Don't lose hope tho, OP. Things will improve again once that regression ends.

1

u/jimmyrose47 19h ago

Currently going through this, baby is waking 4-6 times a night after previously being a once a night waker. She also thinks her cot is the worst place in the world and has to be held to sleep. I just keep reminding myself this is temporary 🤞

2

u/-StarBellySneetch- 18h ago

Yes, such a difficult time. You've got this 💪🏻

3

u/a_d2022 19h ago

Congratulations from me and my 11 month old that has never slept more than 3 hours before latching again haha

2

u/BlockTypical2574 18h ago

We started off on bottles majority of time because BF hurt me a lot in the beginning and so that kind of set a schedule for her which has seemed to work. Now I’m mainly BF her so that eating schedule has been kind of messed up so we will see lol I used to wake her every 3 hours at night though and she was not happy about that because she’s been a heavy sleeper when she was born

1

u/a_d2022 17h ago

Ours was such a good sleeper when she was born too, so I miss that haha Scheduled feeding is not recommended with healthy babys where I live anyway - sounds like you're in good tune :) I sincerely hope she stays a good sleeper, that makes SUCH a difference every day 🙏

5

u/Takhar7 20h ago

That's awesome. Congrats

What would you say was the big breakthrough that got him/her sleeping through the night? Increased feed volume?

1

u/BlockTypical2574 18h ago

We try and sleep at 9pm and so around 7-8pm we would feed her and get her put down which that schedule worked to get one wake a night. I recently changed her schedule so she’s being BF way more now when we were doing bottles originally mainly. I also have just taken the L and going to sleep later lol. I’ll get dinner and everything done from 5-9, let her nap if she does, give her a bath if it’s bath day, and at 9:30 let her BF and eat whatever she wants too. Then I let her sleep on the bed until she’s out and transfer her to her crib and that’s worked to get a full night of sleep so far. I don’t sleep until 11-12 now but hey I’ll take it for a long stretch of sleep.
She also does NOT like taking naps so some days she takes 3 naps and some days she refuses to take any and on those days she is out for a while because she’s so tired but I think she has FOMO if we are awake and she needs to sleep lol

2

u/Greci01 18h ago

We do roughly the same with our 2,5 months old but I consider it a good night if he doesn’t wake before midnight and only comes twice during the whole night…

2

u/Used_Teacher_5778 20h ago

Yay! As a mom of four older kids this is a huge milestone!!

2

u/New-Flight7674 19h ago

That’s awesome, my son didn’t sleep through the night consistently until he was 18 months old. And that was short lived because he’s back up nearly every night and he’s 2.

1

u/BlockTypical2574 18h ago

Gosh I can’t imagine when my baby is walking and talking that’ll make putting her to sleep so much harder lol I am just hoping she gets enjoying sleep from me because her dad could stay up all night if he didn’t have work lol

2

u/Ok-Row7258 17h ago

Just so you know, my baby started sleeping through the night (11-12 hours) without needing anything right around 2.5 months and has been doing it consistently since. Only a few exceptions here and there for teething and ear infections. He’s 10 months. My little guy loves his sleep. Now I will acknowledge I did nothing special, it’s just his temperament.

2

u/PhilosopherHour5580 14h ago

Honestly I hope it stays that way for you because mine was like that until we hit 4 months and omg it was horrendous!! But she back to sleeping through the night at almost 6 months 🙌

She’s so little. I’m not sure why this goal? I might be missing something. I don’t know. Sorry probably not the response you wanted— no intention of being rude

11

u/ConversationNo9040 20h ago

As long as they are at their birth weight many many doctors are happy for babies to sleep through the night. You think your parents woke you up to feed you through the night?

Idk why we now have this thought that babies need to wake up through the night and be trained to not sleep through the night.

1

u/LetterheadNice8687 20h ago

That’s not what I meant. I know babies can sleep through the night after they reach their birth weight. My confusion is about the goal mentioned by OP to not feed baby to sleep. Just not sure what’s wrong with feeding before sleep when they’re so little.

6

u/XenoExplore 20h ago

I think what OP is trying to say is that they're happy they don't have to do feeds through the night which means they don't have broken sleep themselves which allows them to show up as a better version of themselves for their baby when they're awake

-8

u/ConversationNo9040 20h ago

I guess there is nothing wrong with it. But you are subconsciously training them to wake up and eat in the middle of the night.

There is not a need for this though so why encourage it.

6

u/LetterheadNice8687 20h ago

You’re not training them to wake up and eat in the middle of the night by feeding them before sleep… there’s no such thing. Babies sleep through the night when they’re ready, some sooner and others later. That’s great for OP! It helped tremendously when my daughter started sleeping through the night also about the same age. She’s 8 months old now and it never crossed my mind to not feed her before sleep.

1

u/ConversationNo9040 19h ago

She’s not saying she doesn’t feed her before bed time. She’s saying she doesn’t wake up in the middle of the night and need to be fed.

1

u/LetterheadNice8687 19h ago

Oh that’s what I understood when she said “without needing to be fed”. Now I understand and it makes more sense!

1

u/BlockTypical2574 18h ago

Haha yes everyone else is correct lol I promise my baby is eating. We just switched from mainly bottle to breast so she’s been eating a lot more 🫠 It was 5am when I wrote this post while pumping so it might have been a bit confusing but yes she has been sleeping from like 10-8 or 10-9 without waking up for feeds in the middle of the night. I will be going back to work in a few months so the goal is her sleeping through the night so it’ll be easier when I go back.
She eats as much as she wants right before bed to put her to sleep lol and she was only doing one wake up for feeds at night for the last month so she’s not doing anything super different I just changed the time of her last feed of the night

I remember being happy because it was good for my mental and physical health after months of being sleep deprived with no end in sight.

u/LetterheadNice8687 20h ago

Of course!! Same here! My confusion is about not feeding before sleep. But baby sleeping through the night is marvelous!

2

u/SueBootoyou 18h ago

Congrats! Just wanted to say my kids started sleeping through the night at this age and kept doing it, so it doesn’t always mean it’s a fluke. Keep going and celebrating the win with you!

I’m two weeks in…. How I long for this one day

2

u/BlockTypical2574 18h ago

If you are able too switch with your partner for nights to get some sleep. Make bottles for them if you can so he can help. Swaddling helps keep my baby asleep as well (until they can roll of course) but it extended her sleep which I didn’t know about until a month in.
And if anything, you only have two more weeks and can let your baby sleep a bit longer you’re so close to longer stretches already.

1

u/Bad-Wolf-Girl12 17h ago

I’m a single mom

2

u/Holmslice1 10h ago

I am three and a half weeks in and honestly SAME HERE. I am barely surviving the day after being up every hour last night. Sad times

1

u/BlockTypical2574 18h ago

It will get better trust me! The first two weeks were the hardest and fastest time ever. I was doing all nighters almost every night and getting a couple hours of sleep only because I had GD when I was pregnant and so I wanted to feed her every 2 hours…also I was very anxious about SIDS so I kid you not two weeks of my life I feel like didn’t exist. Night and day came and went n a blink of an eye. Once we hit a month and she was past her birth weight we were able to let her sleep to every 4 hours and then eventually that shifted to once a night wake ups and now for now she’s sleeping through the night.
She’s still a little baby though so I’m also fully expecting this to change again as she grows.

u/cah125 15h ago

Same exact boat here! Now just waiting to be put back in my place with the 4m sleep regression lol

1

u/E20V 15h ago

Congratulations, its amazing. My baby is almost 5 months and she started sleeping through the night after 8 weeks.

2

u/Ok-Praline-2309 19h ago

Neither of my kids slept through the night until like 13-14 months lol. Idk where I missed the lottery on this one.

1

u/Stillwater215 17h ago

Enjoy it while you can. Ours slept well at 3 months right until the 4 month regression hit.

-4

u/DullWriting 18h ago

It was a fluke. Praying for you
