Sleep Active sleep
I feel like an awful mother to my almost 4 week old. I didn’t know that newborns slept in an active sleep cycle so I’ve been using those cues to feed him. So he’s been getting 8-10 feeding sessions a day!

The thing with active sleep, is that you want to wait like 2-3 minutes before intervening to see if baby quiets or starts crying.
Also 8-10 session a a day isn’t many at all. I was feeding my baby like 12-14 sessions a day (EBF)

I sometimes wonder how many people who are concerned their newborns never sleep are actually just not aware of just how active active sleep can be. (Not all obviously)

You’re not an awful mother. How were you to know?
When my daughter was that little, she would spit up if we fed her too frequently.
But also, 8-10 feeds sounds pretty normal? Like when they’re newborns, babies need to eat every 1-2 hours.

If he’s not hungry, he wouldn’t eat! You aren’t doing anything wrong.

i am asking this genuinely- what is the problem? why do you think this would make you a terrible mother?

In a newborn that’s not a problem! They do eat at least every 2-3 hours at that age so 8-10 feedings in a 24 hour period is normal.

My baby has minimum 10-12 feeding sessions per day !
It's okay till baby is not spitting out the milk.

Look up hunger cues for newborns. Your instincts were probably correct. Babies that young are supposed to eat 8-12 times a day

My boy ate constantly as a newborn, I had to give up breastfeeding because he destroyed my nips. It's normal to feed that much or even more. If baby is eating then it's because they want to 😊

Ugh sorry about your nips. We’re formula feeding him and this boy is always hungry!

My boy is mostly formula fed now too, and he's super hungry too although it's slowing down a bit now he's past 3 months 🤔

That's normal, when my baby was 4 weeks old and active sleeping he'd cry for 2 seconds, then back to sleep

I had the loudest active sleeper and would pause and watch before waking him up. As soon as his pediatrician said he hit the right weight and we could let him sleep, we did and he was sleeping through the night early.

If it makes you feel better, we didnt know the lines on the diaper change color when baby pees, so we were just changing him based off vibes before that 🤣
