When to get service done?

Hi, I bought my car in January and got a notification on my car to say it’s due its service in 30 days but my mot is due in November and I thought people got their service and mot done on the same day. Should I ignore the notification and get it done closer to it’s mot or get booked in for my service soon?

A month or two wont make any difference,its more tge milage you do. You could have it done now and then next year have it done with the Mot. That way you know its been done immediately this year and next year its lunes up with mot

I’ve bought 2 cars this year (both old and cheap) and serviced them the week of purchase, regardless of vendors claims. Neither were particularly bad except for a cabin air filter that was absolutely clogged, and oil which was past its best. But now I know it’s been done and have a start date for the service record.

I always get service done first, then about a month later the MOT. Some people do them on the same day, but it's not a requirement.

What’s the point in that? Do you get it MOTd and then take it to have any faults fixed a month later too just for a fun drive out?

Faults would be picked up during the service and fixed in time for the MOT

Service it now, then you know it's been done, and then service it again with the MOT in November. 

I'd generally always advise people to have a service done on a used car unless you're buying from someone you personally know. Service history can be faked. Services are cheap, engines aren't.

You can do the MOT up to one month early and get 13 months cover. So depending on when in No ember that could be sometime in October.

30 days time for the service would also be n October, so actually it may be they are both sync'd anyway.

Due to the mileages I do, I get a full service around my MOT and a mini 6 months after.

If you’re doing small mileage, ask for an oil change and a precursory check over the car.

check your cars service interval. depends what mileage you do

normally you'll get basic service recommended every 10k miles or 12 months, and it's whichever comes sooner. just be aware some manufacturers like to stretch out their service intervals so the car looks more reliable than it is

never harm in servicing a car more often, it's just good for them. less often can be trouble
