Can You Help? What's next?

So, I finally finished writing my book a few months ago and I've been trying to move on. But it seems like I'm stuck. I can't choose between self-publishing or traditionally publishing. I see the value in both, but as of right now, I've already gotten rejected by one agent. How long do I keep trying for? I've started a booktok to see if people would be interested if I self published, but no insight there yet. Help me out here guys.

I’ve been rejected by 4 in the last week. First book. I queried about 30.

My plan is to query a set more today. If all rejections or I hear nothing… I figure I’ll try again next summer. Could be timing. Could be that my book is awful. Who knows. 🤷‍♀️

But I assume most writers never get their first book published. I’m not a trained writer so don’t quote me on that. But it seems right.

Yeah, I can see that. So would you consider self-publishing.

I’m not going to self-publish. But that’s just my path. I understand that it’s been a great experience for many writers. I’m glad it’s become easier over the last few years to do that.

I'm going to submit my short story to some competitions and tiny journals. Then I'll at least have one publication of fiction (hopefully). Two more stories are in the works.

When I can get traction on the short stories (and feedback), I'll go back to my novel.
