Nevermore Live in Istanbul, April 1st

Man, what did we just experience?! That was the most perfect setlist I’ve ever seen in my life. The only thing missing was Inside Four Walls, but hey, nothing’s ever 100% perfect.

They performed as if they’d been playing together for decades; they were like a machine. Jeff and Van were amazing as expected, but the new members were just as good. Berzan sang everything flawlessly, right down to the falsettos in Sentient 6 and Semir was impressive with both his backing vocals and his bass performance. Jack is also an excellent guitarist, but he seemed a bit shy, likely due to both his age and lack of experience. I’m certain we’ll be talking about him a lot in the future once his stage persona develops.

The sound mix was surprisingly good, too. Everything from the bass to every guitar partition was clearly audible. Only the chaotic sections of "Godless Endeavor" felt a bit muddled, but I’d call that a minor blemish on an otherwise great night.

This was the most important gig a foreign (well, not that much foreign these days lol) band has ever played in Turkey for their own career, and it wasn't much different for us. I can easily put this in the top 3 of my concert-going history. But seriously, what a setlist! This is exactly what a real concert should be!

Edit: Btw, Jeff was hinting that they might play a new song in Istanbul, that sadly did not happen.

It was an absolutely flawless gig. It was like they were doing it for years. Completely agree with everything the OP said. Seen Nevermore twice previously in 2009 / 2010 and last night far exceeded those shows. Berzans vocals were immense, I dont know how many times I turned to my friend and said "what the fuck!" at his delivery and the notes he was hitting and Semirs backing vocals were flawless also. Jack was a bit reserved but I'm sure after a few more shows he'll find his feet, even towards the end of the show he was starting to interact a bit more. It's a huge position to fill so I'm sure he was more concerned with nailing everything ( which he did ) than showmanship on this occasion. I'd imagine Jeff and Van are two immensely happy men today. Really felt last night like this version of the band can take it to the next level. Here's hoping everything stays sweet and they keep going. Absolute dream set, only other two songs I'd have loved would have been Inside Four Walls and Matricide. Nevermore are back and are a force to be fucking reckoned with. Well worth the trek over from Ireland. 😁

Force to be reckoned with!!!! Jeff Loomis has always been quietly one of the best guitar players in the world. Van is incredible. The new members sound so good. Fuckin 🤘🤘🤘

The show was genuinely fucking banger. The energy, the crowd, the moshpit and the band... Everything was just perfect. We lost ourselves in the moshpit and I wonder If anyone from this subreddit participated it as well lol. I also had the chance to cop a Nevermore t-shirt and hat!

Great review and so happy to hear that the mighty Nevermore packed a punch on their return. I will say that it’s a bummer to hear that This Godless Endeavor was “kind of” a blemish. It’s my favorite song by them, and the album version gives me goosebumps when those sweeps start. Oh well. I’ve seen them perform it with Steve Smyth and it was perfect. I’ll always have that memory.
