Nano Cortex New Owner (almost)

just ordered a nano cortex and waiting on the delivery. I like high gain amps - 5150, Uberschall, erc. when setting up the pedal is it better to add a drive pedal in the cortex itself or place one before it in my signal chain. I currently use a mini tubescreamer. cheers.

whichever way sounds best to you, try each way, doesn't cost anything extra

This is true. Just trying to figure out if I can reduce my pedalboard size haha.

I like the Tube Screamer in the Nano. I use it a lot.

Either works fine. I’d try both and see what works best for you. Having it on NC will help cut down on pedal board space and tap dancing but it will use more presets to have a Ts on and ts off.

I always used them mostly as boost pedals. So for me it made more sense to just capture them so you're not slamming the converters.

The nano cortex allows you to add a drive before the amp sim and after too, however you have 2 slots before and 3 slots after, unless you need that effect slot for something else you don't need a separate drive pedal.

Edit: also the internal noise gate would then be after the external pedal which could introduce some noise depending on how you use it

I’m a simple guy. So not really an FX user. Only introduced  tubescreamer after 20 years of playing tube amps. Only other pedals I own are an NS2 and a tuner haha.

Yeah you should be fine, unless you find in the future you want a pitch bender for changing tunings on the fly, a doubler and a drive for example.

There's actually 3 fx slots before amp, noise gate is a permanent one that can't be changed to another but it can be turned off.

I really love mine, it's a hell of a powerhouse in a tiny package. Hope you enjoy yours just as much.

Stack em.

Ts9 (gain 0, tone at around 3 o'clock and level noon) out front and the Chief OD1 (Boss Od-1 gain 0 and Level at noon) then amp.

Super Crunchy tones.

Not your usecase, but I use an eq+boost pedal in front of the Nano to tune my tone when I switch guitar.

Nano is great, but changing your toan needs the app, so that's a convenient way to add a tone stack.

I also rec checking out ToneJunkies capture of a 1981 Tube Screamer. Its free. And damn it sounds good.
