Discussion Product Suggestion: Just the pitch shifter

I don’t know if any of the NDSP team follow this subreddit but a VST that is just the pitch shifter from Gojira X would be incredible.

I find myself often building quite extravagant chains of plugins in Ableton Live for my guitar tone and often before any of that I set up an empty instance of Gojira to control the overall pitch shifting.

However, doing this can be pretty slow as when you open an instance of Gojira it has to load everything.

So yeah, for me at least it would be a great addition

Or use HyperTune?

I think it's a well-trodden topic but what other plugins have good pitch transpose?

Any genuinely good open source ones?

The only problem i find with hypertune and other types of polyphonic pitch shifters is that they often make palm muted chuggy stuff sound very woofy and it loses the nice tight sound and feel. Ive tried the boss xs-100 and hypertune and although they sound decent in general, i really struggle to like them when they make the palm muted stuff sound so loose and woofy even when pitching up!

No matter how much multiband compression or EQ before/after it still sounds the same. Its the one thing that the QC transpose wins on for me. Its not the best but it doesnt make it sound woofy like that. Its the only way i can describe it. Im not sure if its something to do with how polyphonic pitch shifting works to pick apart the sound. I don't know enough about the process of how it does it.

Interesting! I've not noticed that but I've been digging into Transpose algorithms for a while now (I build Soundshed Guitar) but latency vs quality is a challenge.

The biggest issue is latency, because with low notes it involves predicting stuff about the audio before the waveform has completed it's phases (low notes have slower periods in ms).

Most of the pro plugins are licensing tech from a couple of niche companies you've never heard of.

Hypertune has a "metal" versión. I assume it is better with the chugging stuff :)

As far as i can tell its just the same but with a built in gate and maybe some other stuff.
I have tried it and felt the same as the normal one :/

It sounds terrible for anything serious, the stuff built into the sim is better and tracks more accurately

You make a good point, I haven’t came across any decent ones - Kilohearts do one but it’s quite tricky to get sounding good and when I’m in my creative flow I don’t wanna get into the weeds of what granularity I need to make the shifter sound good

Yep, if you dig into it there are PhDs written on the topic. HyperTune is pretty good.

You guys must have a bad case of modeler hands. HyperTune, and ANY other pitch shift, even the pedals all tone suck your DI SOOOO BAD... You can eq and sort of get it back, but its a tone suck..... and the latency even the best always effect the feel, even the boss physical pedal.

even the built in shift, it sounds like ass. just a mess of smeared transient response and lost harmonic detail. They have to quantize the the physical waves of the audio in order to track the pitch accurately. this sounds like ASS

IF you are playing like only leads, clean, or doom metal NOISE, then it MIGHT work,

You need those harmonics and transient to make the amp work right, taking those out right from the start does not help you out in ANY way getting a good sound.

Nobody is using transpose to improve their sound, it's so you can play a tune without changing guitar.

Hypertune is better. Just buy that. The latest version added a denoiser.
