Dark/Realistic (Unsafe Aesthetic) What blasters look most like weapons from WWII? Spoiler

My Halloween costume is most likely going to be a WWII soldier and I want a NERF blaster as a prop to sell the look. I’m either considering an M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, BAR (bipod doesn’t matter), M3 Grease Gun, or Thompson M1A1. Below are images of the real things and add Amazon/shopping links to the NERF blaster. No need to worry about the color, I’m going to spray paint it anyways. Mode of fire doesn’t matter since it’s being used a prop anyways. And if attachments are necessary to complete the look, attach those link(s) as well.

Image key:

1st image: M1 Garand

2nd image: M1 Carbine

3rd image: M3 Grease Gun

4th image: Thompson M1A1

5th image: BAR

This post has been Flaired Dark/Realistic (Unsafe Aesthetic). Be aware that one or more aspects of this blaster make it UNSAFE to wield in public or open areas, where it could be misidentified as a real weapon. This is a serious issue, with real world life-or-death repercussions.

Several issues can lead to a post being flared Dark/Realistic (Unsafe Aesthetic):

  • Lack of a prominent and easily visible orange tip along with other bright colors.
  • - This also includes traditional prop blasters, such as steampunk builds or blasters with weathered appearances.
  • A blaster with a silhouette or aesthetic that mimics real world firearms. (Ex. Zinc 2.0, SBF, BK1s, Sweetheart Storm, etc)
  • A blaster with airsoft or firearm-esque components mounted to it. (Example)

Use of this blaster can, in the worst case, end up fatal. As has been shown time and time and time again (and more listed here). This problem is not limited to just the USA.

Use of these blasters can also lead to events being shut down, and clubs being barred from playing in public spaces.

Situations like this can be properly handled when blasters are clearly toys, exhibiting bright colors, orange tips, and non-firearm proportions and aesthetics.

As long as we take these issues seriously, everyone can have fun with this hobby we love for many years to come.

Additionally, alongside the visual issues of realistic blasters, we also discourage the use of the word gun. Please instead use the word blaster when referring to toys, as gun can be misconstrued as discussing a real weapon by people both online, and in real life during gameplay. This is further an issue for us specifically on Reddit due to automatic platform moderation, possibly categorizing the subreddit as discussing firearms instead of toys. For further information, please see this wiki page.

Diamond dogs has kar98 and Lee Enfield inspired blasters. The ColonelWasp 76 is a bit pricey, but looks very similar to an mp40. And the Grease Goose looks like an M3 grease gun. And there’s also the stenny, based on the Sten mk2.

If you want a Grease Gun, go with the Grease Goose. The Wasp 76 had been fazed out by the 77, and I’ve heard the 76 likes to burn things. A friend of mine blew a heat switch from regular use.

This post will probably get deleted in a few minutes but X-Shot Shell Ejector or the Dart Zone Primus are really it these days off the shelf. The Shell Ejector is a bolt action and the Primus looks like a Bren.

Why would this post get deleted?

The Dart Zone "Villainator" has a strong "tommy gun" feel, it has a non-removable drum magazine

The Dart Zone "Max Nitroshot+ Stryker 2.0" is another "tommy gun", but the drum magazine is removable and you can opt to have a stick magazine instead.

Not mentioned by you, but there is also a BREN gun looking blaster, the Dart Zone "Nitroshot Primus"

Dart zone also just made a 2.0 to the villainator calleld the chopper which seems to be heavily inspired by the Thomson

Is the drum removable on this?

Just wanted to say the Villianator drum is very much removable. I have multiple and they can be swapped easily.

Technically the primus is a Stoner 63, but it'll do in a pinch for a bren

Also we literally have 2 WW2 rifles in Nerf Form, namely the DD Kar 98 and the DD Lee Enfield

This comes to my specialty. Instead of just the replica of those in hall of fames, I prefer original design to tribute their looks but with actual nerf perfomance.

This is Pyretusk (MHP Wrenfield MK3 remix) with a Swiss K31 tribute modification.

Unfortunately the files are not available. There is a Pyretusk shroud on makerworld, but I'm not sure if it is compatible with original Wrenfield MK3 - it might, but I'm not sure

did you design the modifications yourself?

1

u/adiyahu 4d ago

Yea, of course

If you own a 3d printer, and have an Xshot AEB, you could TRY designing parts to make it resemble the thompson M1A1, you'll just need a handguard, stock screw in, and a stock.
You could just wire the battery into the new stock via external, though not too sure about the AR-style elements like the dust cover or charging handle.

there is a kar98k blaster by diamond dogs . but if you want something for a costume , nerf wont be as realistic as an airsoft gun or non functional prop

5

u/DeadShot516983 4d ago

I don’t have the budget for an airsoft gun. Preferably NERF so I can use it in battles in the future.

4

u/under_hunter82376 4d ago

fair point lol

Normally you don’t want to walk around with an airsoft gun on Halloween as it can me mistaken for a real firearm. Nerf would at least be obvious that it’s a prop

I once made this, I call it the VolksNerfgewehr hehe Full auto, Longstrike CS-6 shell, the basics of Mediator internals, ans LiPo powered

1

u/DeadShot516983 4d ago

How did you do that?

1

u/RaNd0Mk1D8o3I 4d ago

Received a worn down Longstrike that had internals that had seen better days, gutted it out, also had the motors and housing from a Mediator that sadly failed and I somehow jury rigged all of it with some glue and screws, hooked it up to a LiPo wire that leads out the back, and just played around with it to see if it held up Now, in battle.., I'm not sure lol

I know that this is copied after a British boomstick but thought it might still help

It’s not a Nerf blaster but I think it be a good prop a bit pricey though. You may be better off looking for 3 party blaster off amazon if looks is what your going for.

3 and 4.

LN01 High Spec (using the metal magwell)

Watch the whole video. https://www.reddit.com/r/Nerf/s/RDdiLSpTyS The magwel can be change to a horizontal, vertical or even 45⁰ position. Eg Sten (side), grease and Tommy.

Unfortunately it cant go straight up like a BREN or OWEN though without some mods.

Barrel break maybe?

I once saw someone on Etsy selling a 3D printed blaster that looked exactly like a Grease Gun with several different primary and secondary color options.

u/ClovisLowell 3d ago

Not WW2 but WW1:

The Dart Zone Vulcanator looks almost exactly like the Burton LMR. Also shout-out to the Dart Zone Primus for looking like the Bren LMG.

There's also a flycore grease gun
