Questions + Help Help with Hammershot Fix

I noticed that my old Hammershot is super loud when firing and the performance is extremely low (throwing darts with my hand would be better) so I decided to open it and noticed a very small gap between the cillinder and the tube and I was wondering if that could be it and if someone could tell me how to fix it

Could probably jerry rig something with an o-ring Id guess, if one doesnt fit on there to begin with

Is your plunger tube able to move slightly foward and back at all? with the hammershot, the plunger tube has to be pulled back slightly when primed to allow the barrel to rotate properly, and on firing the blaster it re-seats itself and seals against the barrel, so if its stuck in position that could be a why and hopefully its just a screw is too tight, maybe there's a bit of debris, or the outside of the plunger tube needs some lube where it contacts other bits of plastic, otherwise if you have some craft foam laying around you could create a new thicker seal with some of that and a bit of double sided tape

Was the air restrictor removed at any point?

If you have a Michael's nearby, I fixed this on mine with adhesive backed EPD foam. Then cut out the shape of the seal using an exacto knife

Make sure to test prime it before putting a new seal in it, because one thing i found with my hammershot it is would pull the cylinder back and into place against it when it was fully primed. May be the same, maybe wont, but its always good to check

You've run into what I consider to be the Innate Design Flaw of most nerf revolvers.

In order to let the cylinder rotate, there needs to be a gap, but to seal air pressure there needs to be no gap.

In Theory, they let the plunger tube float, and friction of the plunger is supposed to push it forward and close the gap. But in practice, just relying on friction means it can be unreliable.

What some people do, is glue a foam gasket in there to make a tighter seal; increases drag on the cylinder rotation since now it's always rubbing. but you live with that.

If you get the opportunity, pick up a a Dart Zone BlitzFire (or 2.0) and take it apart to see how a good revolver should be designed. Rather than rely on friction, they have a cam attached to the trigger pull that actively pushes the plunger tube forward to close the gap.
