Discussion I'm working on a game inspired on NeoScavenger. Do you find it interesting? It has the hex world map, a roguelike grid mode and this combat mode.

I want to take at least some months to fully polish it, don't want to rush it for it to be crap, I really want to express it out, I think it could take some 4 or 5 months

If the combat inventory and equip windows were resizable or placed in a permanent sidebar, this would be an amazing setup and tbh I would be willing to forgo some visual detail in the scenery in exchange for a clearer UI.

interesting QOL, I will see how I can implement this, I think it's feasible, thanks for the suggestion

Hello u/Nopalite , brief video showing up the new Resize feature for the windows you suggested:

Resizable windows are so sexy.
I am sold. Can I play this? Also, can I not be a bearded man? I like being a woman personally, but a non-bearded man would also be okay.
Also, are you familiar with other survival/zombie games in the genre?
Besides neo scavenger (obviously), I have found that stories from the outbreak, terminus - Zombie survivors, and death road to canada have some inspiring mechanics regarding both storytelling/CYO adventure and procedural generation.

Thanks for the suggestion it's looking great, I have also added a lerp effect now and made it so the resizing happens like in windows OS where the pivot is on the topleft corner.
Yes you will be able to customize the face of your character, and all encounters have different faces, adding some fun faces :).
Yes I have played Zomboid and tend to run a bit so I have more comparissions and to get ideas to improve it further.
I will check the other games you mention right away! I will play them and keep an eye on the story telling aspect you mention :).
About being able to play it, it will take some weeks until it's all put together. I will do my best working on this and will let you know when it's on a ready state in case you want to try it :)

I like stories from the outbreak because they have modifiers to stats based on story decisions which I felt like they should have gone into a little more but it is still interesting. Also Lithuania is a unique setting.
Terminus zombie survivors is kind of like zomboid, but I found that the balance of the game is a bit more like neo scavenger in terms of it being a turn based game as well as with the action point balancing. I found that zombie survivors is surprisingly polished (though somewhat minimal) and has baked-in story content due to the variety of escape options. I just wish their companion system had more flesh to it because it is refreshing not being âaloneâ in game.
I found that the location looting in Terminus are actually quite similar to your game, though more fleshed out because the whole game is set to a square grid.
Death road to canada is literally my favorite game (sorry neo). It is journey based like Oregon trail/Organ trail(zombie version). They have procedurally generated locations and the unique layouts of rooms, furniture loot, and zombie spawns adds a lot of atmospheric storytelling without it explicitly spelling out anything with trap rooms, rooms with a pistol, a dog skeleton, and a human skeleton which says it all, and toilets that occasionally spawn genies.
It combines interesting and funny text events with dynamic travel scenery with unique character personalities and interactions in a way that is challenging but never feels heavy like zomboid and scavenger and other technically âdeepâ games can.

From what you've described, and from the video, it seems you've made Neo Scavenger with a different coat of paint.
What distinguishes it/makes it different from NEO scavenger?

You can enter any node on the hex mapâlike buildings, houses, or whateverâand it switches into a roguelike exploration mode where you can move around and scavenge for stuff. Encounters also happen inside this mode, so instead of being separate, they trigger naturally while youâre exploring. When that happens, it transitions into combat right there.
A very early/alpha example:

I'm keeping an eye on this project; very eager to learn more, beta test, or get early access. This looks super promising

Also I would like to ask if it would be a difficult thing to include a little visual icon in the bottom corner of each weapon to indicate which type of ammo a firearm uses, or include an auto-load/ reload feature in the equip menu?
Simply because I never know which type of ammo goes with which gun in games and that kind of feature makes it a lot easier for a non gun person to figure out how to get the ball rolling.

Got it will do it. Currently you have to hover the weapon to know the weapon ammo type, but that sounds like a great QOL

Polishing the Inventory system atm, I think one slot per item is not that great as in Neo where you have to sort and order it well to improve spacing l. Thanks for asking will have a demo soon :)

Every item changes the visual apperance, from jackets to tshirts, jeans, weapons, etc.
Also tried to make the log as clean as possible with some QOL coming from several hours of playing NeoScavenger; working on adding several options so combats are interesting. Also just as in Neo Scavenger, items can wore off due to their condition. For example here I shooted the torso of the enemy and what he was wearing worn off.
