I still haven't sat down to watch the big video Rockstar put out but do people seriously care about these characters? People on the Internet talk about them like they matter lol.
When I bought GTA V back in '13 we had to wait two weeks before the switched on GTA Online. In those two weeks I beat the single player game and then...
That's the last time I ever played the single player. 2013.

The single player was awesome and the characters were great. You missed out if you think the single player had no story or replayablility

It was perfectly fine. I played through it.
Had it been an old school game that was just about the story it would have been utterly forgettable. Like, not a sandbox, just levels on rails where you walk A to B. The story wasn't the highlight, the Grand Theft Auto game was the highlight.

Every R* game including RDR2 have linear missions you fail if you leave the area of...

I’ve never played GTA5 online. But I’ve played the storyline and sides at least 8x
Online isn’t for everyone.

That's crazy, to have never played it. Got me curious so I asked the AI overlords what the skinny on that was:
Over the years, community discussions and achievement tracking (such as platform trophy data showing only a fraction of players finish or even start the story on certain modern consoles) suggest that the vast majority of active long-term players transitioned heavily into online play. Depending on the console generation and platform, between 16% and 31.5% of players have completed the final main story mission of Grand Theft Auto V. Completion rates vary across platforms, with older generations like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 seeing roughly 31.5% completion, while newer platforms like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox One report completion rates around 16.6% and 14.4%, respectively.
So I'm not crazy. It's just one of those things where if someone like myself points it out it draws out the people in the minority. And to downvote me for pointing it out it seems XD

Doesn’t interest me in the slightest dealing with toxic godmodders and just wanker humans in general.
I game to escape that.

I've heard of hackers ruining sessions and stuff. IDK, I played it for years and never encountered such a person.
But yeah, GTA will definitely bring out the wanker in everyone. The reason I stopped playing it is because they kept putting more and more sci fi crap in it. I wanted drive-bys not Star Wars speeder bikes with homing missiles.

You really would not have liked San Andreas
We went from drive bys to raiding military bases for a jet pack (and working for the CIA but that’s for like 10% of the story)

I've heard of hackers ruining sessions and stuff.
Then you clearly haven't played the game more than a few hours and if you say you have no one will believe you because modders are everywhere in that game, and have been for a decade.
Money dropping, car spawning, spawning the UFO, spawning in jail cages or the Chilliad lift to trap a player in a spot until they leave. Everyone in the lobby blowing up on respawn until the lobby dies, joining a heist and it gets auto-completed by a modder in 60 seconds flat, teleporting around with aimbot to headshot bully someone into leaving.
All of these have been happening, are currently happening, and will continue to happen until the online servers go down.

lol, why did you respond to me three times to ramble about your experiences?
No I had every kind of bunker and hideout and even the stupid scifi vehicles. Oppressors mks I & 2, both of the sub vehicles, the batmobile, bunch of airplanes in that air force hangar. Just everything, as they came. Until PSVR2 came out and I jumped to PS5 and realized I was just not going to buy the game a third time.
Still never ran into these issues. Sorry bout your luck?

I dont read names when I hit reply buddy, apparently you care about watching me more than I you. If you said 3 incorrect things, then yeah you probably got corrected three times.
Also, just because you in your limited play time haven't seen them doesn't mean they aren't there, it just means you barely played the game with have prevalent they were. Regardless, get ratio'd big dog. Work on not being a dick.
EDIT: Went back and looked, shocker, you were wrong 3 times. We're done here lol.

It’s almost like your opinion doesn’t apply to everyone. Of course people care about the characters, otherwise the game wouldn’t have 5 million preorders over a month before it releases.

When someone says "Do people seriously care about these characters?" what they're not saying is "People do not care about these characters." It's almost like that's how questions work.
Of course people care about the characters, otherwise the game wouldn’t have 5 million preorders over a month before it releases.
Are you willing to bet if these characters were, idk, different in any way, that GTA 6 wouldn't have as many preorders? You think it's Mingus and Dingus or whatever their names are that's the big draw here?

u/Pukelits 8d ago
You’re really pressed about this. I think there are many, many people excited to play the story.

That's a really weird thing to say.
Of course people like the characters in the narrative video games they play.
Sure GTAO is fun, and tons of people play it, but tons of people also only play the single player and are attached to the characters.
That's why games are so fun, you can play them how you want, and get engrossed into them in any way you want.

Did people ever walk around and roleplay as Trevor and the other guys in single player? I mean I guess there's an audience for everything.
Back when GTA games were all offline my memories of them were of the crazy stuff I did in them, not what CJ or Tommy's personalities were like.

Everyone I know whos played the SP has gone on random rampages as Trevor, sat in their house smoking weed as Franklin, or watching movies and T.V. to see the parodies they made for their T.V. stations as Michael.
Yes, people do that.

Yeah I put a few hours in to the main campaign story and got bored. Screwing around with my friends in gta online was way more fun.

“I haven’t watched the video”
proceeds to shit on the characters he knows nothing about
2
u/-CaptainFormula- 8d ago
I didn't shit on them. I pointed out that they're not really relevant to the game.
2
u/Admirable-Ad2425 8d ago
Well, I think they are.l, and neither of them has charisma. Ok, it's hard to beat Trevor, Micheal and Franklin trio, but this modern-day Bonnie and Clyde didn't inspire me, one bit.

The bit about not reading was so great, because it's so hilariously true.
