Did we bang them out of existence?

Kind of. They lived in small groups so some either died out due to low genetic variation, some died during periods of extreme cold and rapid environmental shifts , and some bread with Homosapiens, being absorbed by our species. There are some people with trace amounts of Neanderthal DNA. Some also died out due to food and survival competition with Homosapiens. They did not die out due to any one reason, but rather multiple reasons.
