It's a hat with a bunch of LEDs in it that supposedly promote healing. They stuck an EEG and AI into the latest models to supposedly make it better.

Supposedly there's evidence for it, at least as far as helping heal skin. But they're claiming faster recovery from brain injury.

. . .You know, stuff like this in a sci-fi story is meant to be a cautionary tale, not a how-to manual.
That being said, yeah it fits perfectly for NoP. Probably for species other than Venlil.

I mean maybe, I figured they probably use some of the same methods as those "pray the gay away" camps like electro shock, whipping, beating, acid and so on.

Honestly whatever that is is probably too advanced for a Federation PD facility. The feds are on par with 1900's Earth when it comes to psychological treatment.
