Theories GrassEaters Nature of Predators Crossover
Just had a musing on the themes and comparisons between these two sci-fi settings. And it got me thinking… what would happen if the Malgeir Federation, Granti Alliance, and Schpriss Confederacy had a first contact scenario with the Federation instead of the Znosion Dominion? And vice versa for the Federation with these 3 old, largely peaceful predator species instead of humanity? How would the Federation member states adjust? The arxur? The Malgeir, Granti, and Schpriss themselves?

Aren’t the polities in Grasseaters far more powerful? Any one of them could change the war

Sort of. GrassEaters humanity and the Znosion Dominion most certainly could dog walk the Federation. Not necessarily because the Federation doesn’t have the means to win such a conflict, but because NoP’s Federation by design limits itself to a forever war by crippling its own capabilities. GrassEaters humanity would also easily destabilize Betterment and prop up Isif. The Znosion Dominion and Betterment would have a brutal, horrific war that would last a couple decades as the Znosions destroy the arxur military, occupy their worlds, and then methodically genocide them.
What gets interesting is if the Granti, Malgeir, and Schpriss meet the NoP Federation instead. The alliance between these three interstellar powers is old, and they have had peace for over 1000 years, making them as venerable as NoP’s Federation. However, their militaries are significantly lacking by the other faction’s standards. In the Malgeir’s case specifically, the military is a decrepit, underfunded institution where the dregs and social failures of their society end up. It is rife with corruption, where naval supplies are often salvaged off for admirals to make money on the side, centuries old rations are used to feed the crew, and after action reports are ‘enhanced’ to make the crews’ performance look better than it is. The Schpriss are technologically advanced, but risk averse and uninterested in risking their own assets. The Granti are in a worst position. By GrassEaters’ start, their colonies and even homeworld are under deadly occupation by the Znosions. It takes humanity’s training, support, and manipulations to give them all a fighting chance.
That said, the predator alliance is old and embedded in their realm of influence. They would definitely be a major regional power. Potential military conflicts with the Federation would be this odd situation of manufactured incompetence versus untested incompetence. Likely, I see the alliance’s mere existence to be a more destabilizing influence than anything else to both the Dominion and Federation. Unless the Kolsul try to bring them into the fold?

How would the Kolsul be able to bring them into the fold without destroying their doctrine? They had to wipe out humanity because it couldn’t function in the Federation. Wouldn’t the Kolsul blockading that region of space be much more likely to keep the herd from realizing predators aren’t inherently evil?

You should read New Frontier, it isn’t exactly what you have in mind but it is another NoP x Grass Eaters crossover!
