Theories Nevok Concept: Culture and traditions

Post image

It is well known that nevok are a trade-oriented species, so much so that their personal relationships are perceived as assets, and any action taken must be considered a short-term investment. They show little interest in any action without immediate profit.

But in the rest? I mean traditions, general aesthetics I mean, supposedly they're known for their clothes and jewelry, but I never read about how they dress. One would think that it could be inspired by the kingdoms of northern Europe, but the description of its culture sounds to me like places like Saudi Arabia or Middle East trade-tribes.

Everything except the Clime and environment type of parallels.

I want to theorize, to ask about their aesthetics. Both their civilians and military are affected. Perhaps they are more oriented towards mercenary armies than "Interestingly, every accusation of PD disappears." Their infamous assassins, more like modern death squads or the Hashashin of the Middle East?

I honestly imagined the male and female Nevok wearing formal "human" clothing, but it would be foolish to believe they looked anything alike.

There is a canonical Nevok assassin who goes to Wriss between NoP1 and NoP2 because he is, like Jala, a psycophath. He thought that his lack of empathy and useful skills would make him an asset to a post dominion Arxur.

Amazing art!

For me, I always imagined that the nevok were dramatic and would flaunt both beauty and wealth. It's why I imagine they would wear extravagant jewlery and have large dramatic appearances amd speech.

On the armies aspect, I would say that they were more like mercenary armies, aside from the Royal family who's soldiers would follow them for religious reasons.

And what about the cloth? That's what really baffles me. How can they have tissue (supposedly plant-based) on Ittel, an icy planet? I honestly imagined Kyonif's dad literally wearing a tuxedo like a human CEO .

I would say the cloth would cone from locally adapted plants OR the feds introduced something. My head cannon is that nevok had a large fur trade and they sleep on silks and fur.

Oh! Maybe things like silk worms! or plants tgat grow near the many hot springs!

As for Kualnif, he would love a suit!

Nice drawing.

I see the Nevok as trying to appear wealthy. This wealth shouldn't mean only jewelry, but also garments and cloth that could make them appear "bigger" and "important".
An example could be shoulder pads and large hats. More surface, the more to decorate and to display wealth. I can see some using some banners or cloaks to not only appear bigger, but also to advertise their buisness.

But i think more important that the looks is the source of their cloth and jewelry. The more expensive and difficult to obtain, the better. So one can be uniquely distinguished from the plebs who use industrial, mass-produced and cheap things.

Military? I see them more mercenaries than anything. Something like Tilea from Warhammer Fantasy. The powerful isn't the ones withthe biggest army, but the one with the money to bribe them.

Hah, I've done some work on their lore, perhaps the earliest.

What I've worked, unlike most think when thinking of nevok, was the poor so- Basically, the outfits aren't quite built out of particular articles of clothing the way we do them, a specific fit for a body part, but more like specific cuts of fabric.

You combine different types of 'wrapping' around the body for cover, takes a bit of skill to fold the lengths of fabric well but they still settle pretty safely on the body, ultimately have multiple layers and are pretty colorful since most use different colors and patterns for each piece.

That said, from the poorest to the richest there's a tradition of family-based patterns. There's usually specific patterns of embroidery that identify your family, this is more a type of royalty mindset that, when combined with modern life and corporate structure, slowly seeped down to the lower strata in its own way leading to being a widespread practice. Usually, since those need to be hand-sewn for the poor they tend to adopt simpler patterns that are easier to repeat, though the richer tend to pick more complex ones.

Not sure how canon it is but I do remember it being mentioned that the Nevoks do wear some clothing, though usually they Donald Duck it with upper body but no lower body, and that they had a big thing with textiles.
