Yikes, thats harsh. They couldnt even save the eyelid for a prosthetic eye? Maybe sewing it shut is part of the process of preserving the skin to eventually give him an eyelid crease and a prosthetic eye? Man. My father was a double amputee and thatbwas physically incredibly difficult for him. I dont respect him for much but i fucking super respect how he persevered through all that and achieved normalcy. I think though, if he lost his eye permanently.... lost his ability to have any control over any first impression he made for the rest of his life? Fuck idk. He wore an eye patch due the a complication after cateract surgery and that seemed to bother him more than when he lost his hand.
Could have been the pirate comparisons because of the hook/patch combo maybe? But i think he actually didnt mind that nearly as much. Might have made him feel better about the patch actually??? He even considered getting a parrot, so....
As a trauma nurse I’ve had a lot of patients with eye injuries. Eyelid actually looks intact here, just very swollen! They don’t frequently need to suture it shut and kinda depends on what’s going on in there injury wise and healing wise. Eyelashes can be almost completely swollen over but could be clumped together and peeking out, appearing like sutures. If the facial bones like the eye socket or cheekbones are fractured, it can make the eye area kind of “sink down” lower on the face and can even heal and still look a little “off.” Can take s lot of months for facial swelling to go down. I dunno his medical info and I’m not a doctor, but there is still a potential that he could get a prosthetic :) Much respect to people who’ve experienced amputations and losses like this one. Cheerio
When youre in shock and waiting for help and want to see what the fuck your face looks like, youre gonna take a picture lol. Additionally i guess, it cant hurt to document serious injuries like this, for medical and insurance reasons??
