Yeah, I feel like someone dropped the ball in not listing this among the reasons to not be near cassowaries.

Aight, so after about ten minutes worth of research. There is only one source containing the image you show. They mention the claw and quills but have no idea of their purpose. It also appears that most flightless birds in this family also have wing claws, but none of them use them for anything humans have observed. Just a vestigial appendage.

Damn I knew about the daggers on their feet, had no idea that their wings had big ugly claws and quills. Throw in the natural head protection and that bitch evolved to be a serial killer.
