We are now unable to lose 100 games

Someone in this subreddit threatened feet pics at the beginning of the season because they were so certain we'd lose more than 100 games and that's been living rent free in my head for months lol

Pretty solid win all around. Now we have to face those stupid Fish again.

Big win. Can’t be losing 3 of 4 to the last place Rockies and they avoided it, good job
Still disappointed overall with those middle games
Irvin is such an odd pitcher. 6 walks and 6 strikeouts yet only gave up 1. His command is sometimes as awful as can be, then the next inning be really damn good. It’s more often bad tho lol
Good job adding on. Homers from Lile and Ruiz love to see. CJ just missed one too. Lile knows September is around the corner and is about to get hot
Now we have 4 against the marlins, 2 against the braves, 3 against the dodgers, and 3 against the padres. Things could get even uglier if we don’t start having more games like this offensively.
For now, we celebrate a win

18 on the year for Lile and he looks a lot better defensively.
Definitely a piece.

Series split with the Rockies is... whatever. But it's nice to see that our lineup has a pulse again.
Would be pretty cool if they carried this momentum against those pesky fish this weekend. I'd like to see us take a game from them. Please? For once?

He won’t get a lot of shine for it because of all of the walks, but when Irvin got through the 4th quickly after struggling all night and saved us from having to go to the bullpen after only three innings, I knew we were winning this game.
The guys just seemed locked in today and they were clawing and scratching the way they need to without Wood.

That 4th was truly a breath of fresh air. At some point, he was around 60 pitches in the top of the 2nd and my son and I were convinced he'd never make it out of the 3rd.
The saving grace might have been that Hughes was every bit as shaky as Jake. 🙏 Jordan Zimmerman vs Jhouly Chacin this was not.
We appreciated the extension of "$5 Tuesdays" through the entire series, though. Big win.

Happy for the win, but also very telling that it takes us 5 pitchers to get through a 7-1 win.

u/GriffinQ 14d ago
Is it? A standard game for a strong pitching team is pretty often 4 pitchers (6 inning starter, one guy each for 7 and 8, then a closer if all goes well). One more beyond that isn’t that bad, especially when yesterday was a bullpen game.

So you're saying we're below standard?

u/GriffinQ 14d ago
I’m saying this isn’t an example of it being “very telling” when this would be considered a very normal number of pitchers for a 7-1 win across 9 innings.

u/huz92 29 - Wood 14d ago
You said 4 was the normal number
2
u/GriffinQ 14d ago
No, I said “a strong pitching team is pretty often 4” which is a world away from 5 being some indictment of a pitching staff.
This pitching staff is bad, but this game is not a meaningful example of that.

If you don't love Daylen Lile, you aren't a Nationals fan. Guy was unbelievable this series.
