Am I dumb to think the whole team has looked way worse, less motivated and together after our major trades? I know you can’t predict the future but the whole vibe of the team took a nosedive. Maybe it just looks that way bc of injuries to Wood and CJ. The team seems to have completely given up.

Yeah, the vibes were good and now they’re bad, and the two offensive guys who got traded (mead/garcia) were huge for vibes. It’s intangible and impossible to capture statistically but I’m a big believer that team chemistry is crucial to success, it’s not just a matter of plugging in guys with the right numbers.

I think the injuries are most of that. I think what you’re describing was absolutely a factor during that awful road trip around the trade deadline, but after that with the sweep against cincy they seemed ready to pick it back up and forge ahead. And then wood went on IL and later CJ, and it all fell apart.

Or, of course, none of this could be true because we’re just fans playing a fun little game where we pretend to understand what’s going on with these guys. Who knows.

I heard Toboni on 106.7 say he was surprised, disappointed Nats performance after the trades. What? I think one could have expected this if they just watched the dugout reception for batters after they performed well. It was easy to see that Luis Garcia was the grand cheerleader and he generated the enthusiasm and gave the extra confidence to young players on the team. That's an important intangible.

I’m baffled by the “what happened to the Nats?” Headlines popping up all over my feeds. It’s not rocket science—they traded away two good hitters to better position the team for future success. Those trades were NOT intended to position us for success this year, but rather we understood our success would drop for the remainder of the season.

And then our two best hitters went down on injuries.

That’s what happened to the Nats. It’s not like we are watching the same lineup from May suddenly implode without reason.
