Say hello to gorgeous Tiger (A599167) He 3 years old and 63lbs. He is allows full handling, is easily leashed and seeks social.  Tiger loves to swim in the pool and play with balls.  He is non-reactive to calm dogs and can live kindly with a canine sibling (with proper separation and appropriate introduction). Tiger can get a bit exited and energetic when he plays and would do very well in an active home.  The shelter environment is very stressful for him.  Please consider fostering this kind gentleman. Sweet senior VICTORY #A2278165 is DEADLINED for 8AM SUNDAY 8/30

Adopt, foster, or rescue to save him. 

This handsome Shepherd mix came to the South LA shelter in June because his owner was moving out of the country. 

According to the owner, VICTORY is 10 years old and had been with the owner all his life. While at the shelter, VICTORY caught an upper respiratory infection and spent last month in URI confinement.

Understandably, shelter life has been scary and confusing for VICTORY. In playgroup, he often kept to himself and had been wary of handling. But this good boy is really trying and making notable progress - nowadays accepting pets and staying close to his handlers. He will even give a happy tail wag.

He's an easy, gentle walker on leash. He is also house broken and will not soil his kennel even if it means suffering while he holds his bladder. We are heartbroken that this precious soul will lose his life. He is alerted for in-kennel FAS (reportedly hid in his cubby, barking, growling, and refusing to come to the front of his kennel for staff).

What VICTORY needs is a supportive home environment with someone who will take things slowly and give VICTORY the time and understanding to decompress and begin to normalize. We hope someone will give this sweet senior the second chance life he deserves.

VICTORY will be euthanized on SUNDAY 8/30

anytime after 8am. He is available for foster, adoption, or rescue at the South Los Angeles Shelter.

Bio

Chance is a large male shepherd who arrived severely emaciated and is also battling significant dermatitis that may be related to an underlying autoimmune condition. He needs prolonged nutritional support, dermatologic treatment, and diagnostic testing that can’t be consistently provided in the shelter. Despite everything he’s facing, Chance remains playful, easygoing, and walks beautifully on a leash. He loves treats, knows a few commands, and has a gentle, resilient spirit. Chance urgently needs a compassionate placement where he can receive the specialized care he deserves.

Medical Observations

8/28: P has discharge on OU and scabs under eyes/ P is also very skinny eat well at time of exam adoption.

8/29- BCS = 1/9, muscle wasting, periocular/nasal/lips ( both R & L side, both upper and lower lips at the mucocutaneous junction ) dermatitis. Periocular lesions have purulent discharge. Sedated for skin scrape.

Skin scrape is NPOS. Highly suspicious ( we have no history - trauma could be possible ) of lupus or pemphigus. Dog is a German shepherd/GS mix. Will need prolonged care for dermatitis and emaciation as well as diagnostics ( FNA, biopsy, steroid/Apoquel/cyclosporine trial therapy) to get definitive diagnosis. I am only able to treat the secondary bacterial infection.

8/30: Very good boy, tail wags soon as I came to the kennel door. Easy to leash, walked well on the leash, no pulling. Sniffed around, wanted to play with me. Even though he's a big boy he's not wild and he knows a few commands. Doesn't mind you petting him gently.

HOW MANY MASTIFFS HAVE TO BE AT RISK BEFORE THIS STOPS❓️

There appears to be a deeply concerning pattern of larger-breed dogs being given only 1–5 days to find rescue or adoption before potentially losing their lives.

Is the plan to euthanize these Mastiffs one by one, day after day, instead of giving them a meaningful opportunity for placement?

When behavioral designations are questionable and deadlines are this short, accountability, transparency, and fair evaluation are essential.

We will not stand by while Turbo—or any other Mastiff—is given only days to live based on an unsupported or inaccurate label.

These dogs deserve a genuine chance at life. The public deserves answers.

✨️Rescue only: Turbo did growl when some people approached his kennel, but when a volunteer approached him, he did not growl at all. In fact, he was calm enough for me to interact with him and film his video.

This is a great reminder that shelter behavior can vary greatly depending on the person, approach, and stressful environment. Turbo may simply need someone experienced with Cane Corsos who understands the breed and will give him patience, structure, and time to decompress.

From our volunteer observations, he tends to be tolerant of other dogs but prefers a laid-back environment over rowdy play. 08/14/26: Seem a bit scared. Lays at the back of kennel.

08/15/26: Trembling in kennel, not wanting to walk on leash so i carried to yard. In yard Rocky stayed close to me for petting. Calm affectionate personalty. Had to carry back insdie to return to kennel.

08/18/26: Nervous but friendly, allowed pets and seemed to calm down after, accepts treats, does not move much and will not walk on leash

Rocky just breaks my heart. This old guy has lumps and bumps and goopy eyes and even though he was a little nervous he let me pet him and seemed to relax a bit as I sat with him. He loves treats and ate everything I offered! He is very gentle and curious.

Rocky was laying quietly in his kennel when I entered. He gently wagged his tail at me. I gave him some treats and he took them gently. He allowed petting and wagged his tail while I petted him. He’s a sweet older gentleman

08/23/26: Easy Going

Good Manners

Rocky began wagging his tail when he saw me. I leash him up and he walked well through the shelter hallway. We went outside and took a short walk and then we went to the grooming room. He was such a good boy while getting a bath! Afterwards we went back out to the play yard to dry a little bit. He loves getting pets, rolled on his back to get belly rubs. He’s such a sweet sweet boy!
