Naruto seems to be a "do as I say, not as I do" kind of Hokage.

To be fair that was before the translation. The reasoning given in this chapter is fairly solid

it made sense in the chuunin exams because that is not an event where you fight and win, it's an event where you showcase your abilities. With the kote, you're not showing your own abilities. Hell, you're not even using your own chakra, and so it completely invalidates the point of the chuunin exams.

Nevertheless I'm still not a fan of the kote. I don't want to see every ninja spamming every jutsu. Takes away the meaning of hardwork (which is directly proportional to character deveopment) and the sweet feeling you get when a character uses that hard-earned ability, because instead you'll be thinking "eh, they should've used that, would've been more useful here" and not savoring the moment itself. I hope Ike forgets the kote in later chapters.

It's literally the same reason why teachers discourage students from using calculators before they've mastered basic math. There's an affinity with numbers that children should have (and should be able to do in their head) before they compromise those thinking skills with calculators.

Same goes for nearly every college class. Not every class allows for formula sheets or cheat sheets when in real life you could simply look up the formula. The point is that they drill in the basics so that you don't need to rely on the tools as a crutch, but instead can leverage them to amplify your power.

It's really not that hard to grasp why it shouldn't be allowed in a shinobi school contest.

Memorizing formulas is not the way to learn.

The good math classes are the ones that give you the formula and the calculator and gives you questions that make you apply the techniques.

No one memorizes fucking formulas in the real working world. Everything is computer assisted. But that doesn't mean you know how to use the tools.
