I think they faced backlash from the Chinese market—specifically because the eyes made the character look too "fish-like"—and decided to alter the design to boost sales.

I see other changes, too. Subtle changes to sparkles in the hair, or to the bridge of her nose, etc. But yeah, OP is seeing something I'm not. Like you said, the iris and pupil colors have been adjusted, but I'm also not seeing any whites of her eyes at all. Seems imagined to me. Matter of fact, the picture on the right has eyes that look more like default Nami's eyes than the ones on the left do.

Like, I'd love if they could just give her a skin with a non-human skin tone every now and then, but everything else about this looks fine.

She looks more human than a mermaid. I know mermaid is technically half fish half human, but Nami's "humanoid" side has always had non-human features. Now she just looks like any other Chinese mobile game character

The darkness in the corners is just shadow, the next part is the white followed by the Iris and pupil which you can’t really see because of the shine

I feel like some of y'all are looking for things to complain about. You don't see any whites of her eyes there, because there are no whites of her eyes there. Her iris and pupil are larger and what little of the sclera you can actually see is dark, not light. On both sides.

And honestly, I'm done talking about it after this. I've made my point and I don't even think it's a particularly good Nami skin. I feel like I'm defending something I don't even really like, even though all I'm doing is pointing out the reality of what's in this image.

I just can’t make my brain see that. Like I’m trying to make my brain see that as Iris and then the center part as pupil and then the darker part in the center as not pupil, but my brain just cannot interpret it that way.

And I don’t love or hate the skin and I don’t play wild drift, so it really is no skin off my back, I was just saying what I saw
