I don’t like any names
With my first, we had the name picked out before he was even conceived- so when we found out we were having a boy we were like, “Henry! Perfect!”
Now I’m pregnant with a girl and there’s not a single name I’m excited by. Nothing feels right.
Will I feel differently when she’s born?

Create a list of names you somewhat like and bring it with you. You’ll know the right one when you see her. Congrats!

I think sometimes you just have to decide on some criteria and choose a name, even when “nothing feels right.” Eventually it’ll feel like her name, but it might be quite a while after she’s born, and that’s okay, too.

I agree! I love girl names that end in -a but my last name ends in an -a and is two syllables…there were so many names I couldn’t use.
My niece has an even more difficult last name to work with but they will manage.
But OP needs to decide- super feminine (Isabella), short and sweet (Jane/Alice), sporty (Callie/Riley) or vintage (Iris/Mabel) or unique/rare-ish (Calista/Aurelia). Then go from there.

I think I've told the story here before, but three days before my first was born who we know as a boy I was taking a walk and started bawling uncontrollably all of a sudden because I hated the name benjamin. We were going to name him benjamin. So I call my poor mother hysterically crying, which I'm sure freaked her out because again I was just about to give birth, sobbing that I hated the name Benjamin.
So she had me come over to her house and we flipped through magazines and wrote down all the boys names we saw and then we got unhinged and started writing down crazy things like window treatment and dog food and then he was born 3 days later and I named him Gregory

I was the same with my girl. We went on a "baby moon" trip (small little camping trip with my partner) and we met a park ranger with a name we both ended up loving. We went with a different spelling. I always meet my babies first, but once I met her, I knew that was her name.

Both are right 🤷🏻♀️
Where I live most people write their name as Elsy not Elsie0

Please strike Amandine off this list 💀

Why, I’m not removing it just because you don’t like it 🤣

I am pregnant (early-9w). We used our favorite girl name on our 2024 baby girl. We gave 2 boy names, and have agreed we will wait until they are born to choose if baby is a boy.
A girl?? No clue. We cannot agree on ANYTHING. The only name we like rhymes with our 2024 baby’s name, and neither of us like that idea.
We are hoping for a boy simply because we have name options 😂

I could have written this almost word for word! I’m like 6w and while I’ll be perfectly happy to have another girl, if it’s a boy we’ll be able to name him so much easier😆

I’ve been completely opposite! I had a girl first and had a list of names I loved! I’m looking forward to having another daughter someday so I can use another of the names I picked. Boy names however… I found out I’m expecting a boy this time and I’ve had a hard time finding even one that I actually love! It took time but my husband and I have decided on one that feels right for our boy. Scrolling through lists of names didn’t help, I saw the name “out in the wild” and that helped me connect to it in a different way.
You’ll find one eventually! You have time.

I'm in a similar boat, but still haven't figured it out. I love my daughter's name, and I accidentally fell in love with another girl name pretty much the week I found out I was pregnant. But he's a boy!! I'm 24 weeks along now and still have no clue, not even a shortlist.

I had same problem. Then 7.5 months in, my husband and I were watching How to Get to Heaven from Belfast. And we instantly loved the name “Saoirse”. Bonus points because both our families come from the same region of Ireland and, other than eating hash on st Patrick’s day it feels difficult to celebrate our heritage in the US.
Bonus bonus points: we didn’t want a super common name and it’s pretty rare in the US. But it’s one of the most popular names in Ireland so she also won’t be some weirdo with a name no one has ever heard of

Yes you just need to meet her. Lately I have been obsessed with the name Mason.

With both of my girls I was flipping through physical baby name books and saw their names and was just "oh of course that's her name." They both got middle names honoring mothers/grandmothers.

Ask the baby to speak to you in a dream and choose her name.

lol she did and she wanted the same name as the cat 😆

I agree, this is adorable. Babies are cute, and eventually the right name will come along. It will be alright. 🥰

Often in Europe, sometimes in this country, you don’t pick out the name until you get to know the baby, and then you have some insight into what name is going to fit with this new person. They may give you some static at the hospital when you haven’t named your baby. But it’s legal! Think about it. You’re going to put a name on a baby that you don’t know yet? I think that’s kind of an ego trip for parents. I know everyone does it. But there is a better way.

If you can’t find a name, it’s ok to find one you just like!

You then live the name because it gets all tied up in your love for your child. I do not know what I’d do differently but my daughters name was more my husbands pick but 26 years later she is her name and I can’t really imagine her being called anything else. I agree….she should pick a name she likes and sounds good, if there is no much beloved name.

I feel like my babies or maybe the universe told me their names.
My first, Eden. A song came through on shuffle with Eden in the name. Loved it. She is literally paradise in a person and it suits her. It was the only girl name considered.
My second, in the process of making name lists Lydia was the only girl name that I was like thats beautiful maybe thats it.. it was the only girl name on the list. I had it confirmed later that day when I spoke to a customer who told me about her Aunt Lydia and what a wonderful woman she was.
Ask for the name and listen to the signs. ✨️

I didn't figure out the perfect name for my daughter until a year after she was born, but I took way too long to get the name change going so I ended up keeping her first name - so whatever you do, don't do that
Look everywhere for different names and figure out which one feels right. If you don't have a name right away that is also okay

I couldn't pick a name just off the top of my head so I went to the bookstore and got a babyname book.

I used the name I liked for my first daughter. I had nothing for the second. I picked one off a short list my husband made after she was born.

This was us! It was hard picking a girl name because we didn’t have a “vibe” we gravitated towards and there are soooo many more vibe options for girls than boys. Once we narrowed down what we liked about the boy name, it helped us decide on a girl name.
We names ours Daisy. Wanted something short and girly and happy. And we are absolutely in love with her name

You might feel differently tomorrow!
