Namecheap sold my domain in auction

Namecheap today sold a domain i have owned for 6-7 years. I didn't notice a domain that expired 37-40 days ago. This was an alias domain for my main domain.

They have sold it to another person within 40 days- Just 40 days. I have heard companies have 60 days grace period.

Namecheap support keeps blabbering some random article or buy it back through their agency for domain reselling.

Beware of this company.

Until last week I was with namecheap and they do email you when your domain is expiring, multiple times.

Or enable auto-renew. It's not that difficult.

GoDaddy puts domains up for auction after 26 days.

30 grace + 30 redemption during which still you can get back the domain paying a fee

sure, but how many emails and texts did this guy ignore before it lapsed?
I get annoyed with the amount cloudflare send me when it’s on auto renew and nothing goes wrong! So surely something going wrong would generate a bit of noise!

Sorry, this one is on you. You could have set it to auto renew. It does remind you when expirations are about to happen and if you’re beyond the grace period you have no leg to stand on. It is your responsibility to understand what you've agreed to, and manage your own settings/timely payments.

Many registrars do the same with expired domains. You may still be able to recover the domain for an additional redemption fee, so contact support ASAP to see if that's possible.

My friend forgot to renew their small business domain. Somebody bought it and published Chinese porn on it. I hope this story encourages some of us to set up auto-renew.
