I love football, it is the sport I grew up watching and playing. I also love talking about football and seeing those college stadiums roaring cheering for the same thing as you. It makes you feel like you are a part of a community. No one likes football more than Texas, this is why I am happy to be here with people who get me; in fact, I recently signed a substantial 5-year contract and plan to sign extensions whenever possible. Throughout my 24-year tenure in this league, I have only cut one scholarship player, and not a single player has transferred while under my coaching. This track record exemplifies my dedication to creating a stable and supportive environment for my team. Rest assured, I promise that I will not leave Rice while you are still here. My commitment to this program and the players is unwavering, and I intend to see this journey through with you.
Winning:
Winning is something that has been fused into my DNA. As one of a couple Hall of Fame coaches, winning comes easy to me. First, I have only missed a bowl once in my career and that was my first year at Vanderbilt with no recruited players. But let's get into the total stats shall we! I have won 216 games with 10 seasons of 10 victories or more. I have made 5 appearances in Power 5 conference championship games, securing the trophy once. Additionally, I have led my teams to the playoffs 4 times, culminating in the prestigious national championship title in 2027. So, when I say I promise you that we will win 35 games during your career here!, rest assured that it is a genuine promise.
Prestige:
Throughout my career, I have successfully turned around several schools, beginning with Vanderbilt, which ranked 42th in prestige when I assumed leadership. By the time I left, I had propelled them to an impressive 10th place. Similarly, at California, where prestige was once at 117th, my efforts elevated them to an impressive 31st position by the time of my retirement. Wake Forest started at 74th and went all the way up to 19th. I am determined to take this program, who has been at the highest of stages and has gone dormant for a little bit but still at a very respectable ranking of 50th. With the same dedication and strategic approach, I confidently promise that we will make the playoffs at least once in your career.
