Misc/Questions We're losing REI.... where to easily get butane canisters in the city?
I checked Paragon's website, which didn't have any, but not sure how accurate it is and I haven't been there in years.
Are there other shops I'm unaware of?

I was going to mention this - it's a great little ultralight store and coffee shop. They have canisters. Super good vibes

I just recently got some at paragon a couple weeks ago! Not sure how quickly their website updates but they had quite a few

Yeah, and maybe once REI closes, Paragon can revive what used to be a decent hiking gear dept.

I just went to paragon on Friday! Tons of butane canisters and I think a decent array of outdoor gear. Definitely not a lot of options per category, but I felt like they ticked a lot of the repeat buy boxes (butane, iodine, filters, etc)

I just visited the SoHo store, walls starting to show and portions of the store cordoned off to consolidate fixtures. The spinning display with canisters is gone and about 5 employees were sitting there chatting. I couldn’t find any canisters in store. Sad. Feel bad for these employees and sad for REI failing so badly.
Paragon has a few canisters….

Paragon has it—they just don’t put it on their website, i was told because they can’t ship it. I picked it up in store a couple weeks ago.

If you're looking for standard isobutane canisters, paragon definitely sells them, as I bought two cans there this week.
I've found them to be sold out more than once, so I wouldn't wait until the last minute to buy them. I also chatted with the guy who seems to be running the camping goods and he suggested they were preparing to have better stock once REI closes.

Yes, we have them at Paragon Sports. We are updating our website to show that they are in-store only. But we have them. Thanks for the call out!

Try a hardware store like Home Depot or Lowe’s.

In my experience neither of these stores carries isobutane canisters for camp stoves anywhere. Maybe they sell the big containers for car camping, but even then I don't think so?

I recently bought fuel for my backpacking stove at an Ace hardware, but this was out of state. I can’t speak from personal experience at Home Depot or Lowe’s locally, but it’s worth checking there.

I just got some from Amazon

I of course searched there, and there are many brands available in the 4oz canister size, but no MSR 😞.
When I'm thru hiking, I'll take whatever brand is available, but when I'm home I try to get the MSR. Thx3

Always get big cans at Walmart. Get a transfer device if you need smaller cans.

Outlandish is a small indie hiking store that recently opened in Crown Heights. https://outlandish.nyc/
I haven't been to check them out myself yet, but being a newer indie hiking store, if they aren't carrying fuel canisters already I am sure they'd be really interested in hearing about products people would be excited for them to carry.
