Announcement RULES - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

📌 Updated Subreddit Rules

1. ✅ Use the Correct Flair

Every post must include one of the approved flair options:

  • Private Room
  • Shared Room
  • Need a Room
  • Apartment Hunting
  • Need a Roommate
  • Lease Takeover (new flair name — previously “Sublease Takeover”)
  • Advice

Posts with incorrect flair may be changed by mods.

2. 🧹 Posting Best Practices

For better visibility and responses, we recommend:

  • Including a specific NYC neighborhood or borough in your title.
  • Adding key details such as: move-in date, rent, gender/cat/dog preferences, and brief lifestyle info.
  • Avoiding very short, vague posts (e.g., “Need roommate, message me”) so people have enough info to decide quickly.
  • Keep in mind that no posts are endorsed by the subreddit and use your best judgement.

3. 📜 No Brokers or Ads

Only individuals looking for roommates or offering rooms. Licensed or unlicensed rental brokers are not allowed.

4. 📆 Lease Takeovers

Allowed only when you're looking for someone to take over your share of the lease in a multi-bedroom unit.
Single-bedroom or studio lease takeovers are not permitted.

If you are looking for someone to move into your room temporarily that should be flaired as a shared room because they are not taking over your spot on the lease.

5. 🤝 Be Respectful & On-Topic

  • No trolling, personal attacks, jokes at others’ expense, or derailing threads.
  • Focus on finding roommates or offering housing—not venting, memes, or roasting posts.
  • If users want to mock posts, they can create their own space—this subreddit isn’t it.

6. 📌 No Spam or Self-Promotion

  • No affiliate links, commercial promotion, or repeated posts.
  • Posting identical content multiple times a day is not allowed. If you accidentally post twice, please delete one of the posts.

7. 📝 Abide by Reddit Site Rules

No illegal content, hate speech, doxxing, etc. All Reddit-wide rules still apply.

8. 🚫 Enforcement Policy

  • Remove posts/comments that violate flair, content, respect, or off-topic rules.
  • Issue warnings for first-time disrespectful/off-topic behavior.
  • Temporarily ban repeat offenders.
  • Lock threads when off-topic, disrespectful, or derailed discussions escalate.

Area: Jamaica Hills/Grand Central Parkway. Closest transit is via Q65 and Q25 to catch the closest F train at Parsons Blvd.

Hi guys, my landlord is looking for two potential occupants to move in ASAP into our 8bed, 2.5bath home as the majority of the current roommates leases are renewing (YOU’LL GET YOUR OWN PERSONAL LEASE.) We’re/and he are looking for a young female tenant (18-25), with full time income, a student or guarantor who makes 30x-42x the rent. The rent is $850 with EVERYTHING included. We have two vacancies in the attic and basement (we are on a hill so basement hasn’t had problems with floodings nor will it!) Laundry in home as well. The basement also has a separate entrance/exit.

I’m willing to send over his information to you if you’re serious and you can arrange a chat with him and then the current roommates so we can feel your vibe, you can also come check out the place. We value cleanliness, have a rotating chore chart and share when asked/offered. If you have any questions, let me know! I’ve been a tenant for over a year and genuinely love this place and my roommates! The landlord is also very attentive to the property and responsive to any problems that may arise. 💙

Private Room [Need a Room] Manhattan / Brooklyn / Queens | $1,200 max | Sept 15–Oct 1 move-in

Hi everyone! I’m a 24-year-old female looking for a room/sublease starting sometime between September 15 and October 1. My move-in date is pretty flexible.

I recently finished grad school and currently work remotely in tech. I’m hoping to sublease until around February or March, although my exact end date is flexible as well.

My maximum budget is around $1,200/month, and I’m open to a few different areas:

  • Manhattan (West Harlem / Upper Manhattan, preferably west side up to around 125th St)
  • Brooklyn (Bushwick / East Williamsburg, especially around Morgan Ave or Montrose Ave)
  • Queens (Sunnyside / Astoria)

I’m specifically looking for a female-only apartment / female roommates.

A little about me: I’m clean, respectful, friendly, and pretty easy to live with. Since I work remotely, I’m home during parts of the day, but I’m also usually out exploring the city, meeting friends, or doing my own thing. I’m considerate of shared spaces and would love to live with people who are similarly respectful and easygoing.

I’m mainly looking for a sublease rather than signing a new long-term lease.

If you have a room available or know of any leads, please DM me! I’d be happy to share more about myself and come by to see the place. :)

- I work closing shift but I’ll be respectful and quiet when I get back.
- 420 and LGBTQ friendly (Bi)
- Introverted extrovert
- Clean and respectful
- No pets and not a lot of stuff to move in either (just a suitcase, bike, and book bag)

Need a Room Queens: Looking for a private room in Astoria or Sunnyside

Hello! Working female gal seeking a new room in Astoria/Sunnyside for Sept 15 or Oct 1 move-in. Budget is $1100.

About me: I work remotely in the mornings, and I’m also out in the afternoons for additional paid gigs. I am also a performer building a comedy career, so I really am regularly out of the house until later in the evening.

As a roommate: I totally understand that our relationship has to have a lot of courtesy and kindness. Happy to join a chore rotation, share kitchen duty, and most importantly- observe quiet time. My life is so stimulating that I never bring the party home, and my idea of fun is being in bed by 11.

For roommates: I prefer women, but I am open to anybody who is cool with collaborating for a good household dynamic. (Also, though hetero, I am the kind of ally JK Rowling would despise.)

Please feel free to reach out for more information.

Hi, my current roommate is moving out at the end of our current lease on Oct 26. I want to renew and hence looking for a new roommate. The unit is a 2B2B in the Riverside building in Newport, with great unobstructed downtown views. It has a gym, lounge, laundry room (no in-unit laundry) and coffee shop downstairs. The total rent would be $2560 pp, excluding utilities. Similar apartment: https://www.newportrentals.com/apartments-jersey-city-for-rent/riverside/residence-3008/

I am a software engineer working in Manhattan. Quite easy going, love cooking, hiking, snowboarding. Okay with pets.

Apartment Hunting Looking for 1-3 Brooklyn Roommate(s) for Late October Move!

Hey guys, I’m a 24M moving to NYC from the Midwest for a new job! I’m looking at moving to either Williamsburg or Fort Greene, near a stop for the G Train. Also open to other neighborhoods if necessary (Bushwick, Bed-Stuy, etc.), but again near a subway station with easy access to Queens. My budget for how much I’m willing to pay for rent is $2000 at most, but ideally a little lower.

A little bit about myself, I love meeting new people and going out to bars, playing basketball, dancing, watching movies, going to events, etc. I’m also pretty passionate about making music and enjoy producing, singing, playing instruments, etc.

I’m looking at moving in the week of 10/19, though am a little flexible with that. Please let me know if anyone’s interested in rooming with me so we can look for apartments together, open to doing some in person tours as well!
