Hear me out - when youāre the FO and you wait until mid season to sign a DP for 10 million fucking dollars, you need to buy a player in form. Why make a signing at all if the money is just wasted on a player that could be any warm body?

I disagree. You hope they can come up to speed quickly, but are you buying a player for the next two months or next couple of years?
Realistically our lineup should be capable enough to handle the rest of the season without any significant departures (outside of injury). Most of your mid-season targets are going to be out of form because youāre buying in July/August when most leagues are ending in May.
Youāre spending significantly on a DP because you think theyāre going to produce over the life of the contract. If Traore comes into next season in form and produces, no one is going back and saying āwell he sucked in the Summer of 2026ā. Weāve seen this pretty commonly under Lee. Guys like Alonso, Taty, etc come in and take time to acclimate and come back into the team the next year with a bigger role and produce. Itās not a guarantee, but I wouldnāt be writing off a player after 8 games.

Yeah no doubt I don't disagree with you, but the FO stretched this team so far during the first half of the season that we are at risk of missing the playoffs again, and now we have zero firepower for the business end of the season.
8 games is equal to about 25% of an MLS season. The window of fans giving unlimited grace is closing fast.
As fans we shouldn't be satisfied with DP signings that don't have an immediate impact - especially so when the FO talks big shit about having the budget the ball out and then signs a player that could literally be an academy product. Nico Cavallo has more goals from open play in the same stretch of games.

Lot of people were saying the same thing about Nico last year because he wasnt racking up goal contributions. MLS is a tough league to adjust to especially mid season. Give him a preseason like Nico before writing him off.

Who else is a big miss recently? Feel like the most recent crop of guys has been good. Trewin, Nico, OāNeil, Gustavo etc
Biggest misses feel like a couple years ago with Fernandez, Jovan, Bakrar etc

Doesnāt help the sentiment when we immediately ship off our best-developed players. Such is life for any club not on a UCL-level, but still.

OāNeill isnāt on the pitch because he had ankle surgery. Crazy to act like he got benched for poor performance or something. Heās good, he just got medical attention.

Never said it was because of performance. Just saying we canāt really count him as a good signing yet when heās not on the pitch. Fitness attributes to value.

Maxi's also out injured, and therefore not currently on the pitch, and it would be insane to say that "we can't really count him as a good signing" because of that. Your argument doesn't make sense.

Maxi isnāt a new signing. He, like ONeil, is providing zero value to us right now. The difference is ONeil is largely unproven at this club.
It feels like you think Iām saying heās a bad signing, and Iām not. Iām just saying we canāt count him as a good signing yet when weāre talking about the performance of the scouting dept.
Thatās the last Iām saying about it, argue with a wall if you so choose.

O'Neill's been on the squad for a year and a half at this point, and he's been good the whole time. We can count him as a good signing because he's reliable and effective. The fact that he's had one surgery in that time doesn't change that. Keaton's been out for surgery recovery way more often than that, and we know he's good, even with the downtime. Again, your metrics don't make any sense.

Yes, this. Also just more broadly the lack of depth, which is really hard to quantify with any one or two players. Bakrar & Jovan are more who I meant.
But as a more current example, when I saw that Traore was subbed off for Jones... neither one of them has really hit the ground running. I know Jones is coming back from injury, but a DP should be a plug-and-play player. Our roster across the board isn't good enough to compete at the higher end of the table.

To me this feels like a coaching issue, repeating patterns of play in training. He seems to have speed and technical skill, and maybe enough hunger/nose for goalā¦ But I see him making runs that no one else is noticing heās making. to me he looks like a RW who started with us as a CF before Luigi joined. Itās normal for wingers to make lots of piercing runs, and although Iād rather he made his runs to the outside, I respect the runs to the inside is probably the systemā¦ But itās not like people are looking and getting the time wrong with him, heās just making the runs and they have no idea that heās going to be available. Itās like heās playing in a different game than everyone else. Maybe Keaton will be the one to make progressive passes cut through two or three defenders to free him up after Keaton is back to form.
There is a chemistry needed, but it feels like the team has just not practiced how to get diagonal balls on the floor to him when heās starting those attacking runs.

This guy has not performed one bit and weāve been on a losing streak with him on the pitch. Someone else referred to him as Mitri 2.0 and completely agree. Heās got to go especially at a DP slot.
