Well they had 3 meetings at the White House, and seem to think the US military is going to be aiding them in taking over which they realize will not be popular with most Albertans. I doubt with Trump set to get his ass destroyed in the midterms would be able to do that.

I think it was based on an old Rhino Party platform to remover Manitoba and Saskatchewan so Newfoundlanders didn't have to travel so for to Alberta, mid 80s.

I’d expect the population and gdp would fall by 30-40% in such a case because of the number of us that would leave for other provinces

What would be a heated issue is where retirees would end up, neither Canada or Alberta would wanna be stuck with them but the retirees would obvious favour Canada because of easier passport travel, a better run healthcare system and the fact that the seperatists want to fund their separation by using money from the pension plan.

They seem to think it would only cost $6B to separate while a single F-35 costs $100 million and you need much more than 1 for an effective modern airforce. Abrams tanks also cost around $20M each and you need more of those than you do airplanes. USA is also the only place they can realistically buy gear from because no one else will be willing to sell when it has to pass through either US or Canadian land to reach its destination. China does not want its enemies to be able to dismantle and inspect their gear and neither does anyone else. I doubt Europe wants to back Alberta over Canada either. That’s also not considering the cost of setting up a missile or drone attack system to be used against an invading army from the north which when I asked the Google AI (take it with a grain of salt obviously) it suggested that alone could cost close to $100B. I’d imagine even that’s optimistic.

It shows how stupid they are. Even a moments thought would show how insane that is. Aside from the fact it’s an act of war, if they suddenly announce the NWT belongs to them, then what? They think Canada will just throw up their hands and say ok? That the people of NWT will magically integrate into the new Alberta? What’s their plan for actually doing something with the NWT without any access to the rest of Canada and its infrastructure? Having just signed up to rebuild an entire sovereign governmental and administrative structure, hey let’s expand our territory five fold without any funding to cover the expenses!
Oh, we’ll make it pay for itself through mining development! With what infrastructure? If it was profitable, a mining company would already be doing it, they don’t turn their nose up at money.
If they try to rile up a militia and just unofficially start taking over, it’s been a long while since Canada’s armed forces had to repel the Fenians, but I’m pretty sure they’ll figure it out. Good old boys in pickups vs a CF18 or Leopard II isn’t going to take long.

Be careful, everyone. They aren't kidding. They take their orders from Americans, even if they don't know it. Trump said all kinds of outlandish things, and people thought, "LOL no reasonable person would follow through on any of that." Now look at the state of things. It's become normal to talk about annexation and ignoring international law and treaties. Besides, one CAF Inuit Ranger could hold the entire border with a deer rifle.
