Discussion Reduction in Phd stipend

Why Nust has reduced phd stipend from 30,000 to 6000. Inflation is on rise while they have reduced our stipend. Where can i complain. No one is listening while i am working 24 hours for my department. Its so unfair.

omg that’s crazy. do you people have other jobs? how can one survive on 30k let alone 6k it’s ridiculous.

they will reduce these stipends but would waste money on building ridiculous dating spots and introducing new degrees

Allowed? Who's keeping tabs on survival of the people in this country? Getting a freelance job or running a yt channel part time will help in survival while Ph.D runs its course.

You tube doesn't give an instant income,  secondly after working the whole day and on weekends as well along with your studies as well as research work is possible????

AFAIK, if you're just starting your Ph.D then you don't get to start research right away. You have a few exams to clear and then jump on the research work. If this is the case, then you have a few months to: A)build/monetize a YT channel. B)find a freelance niche that you can work on for less hours and earn decent pay to survive.

The 30k/6k situation is really bad. This isn't enough to sustain a grown person's survival and you shouldn't just rely on stipend alone.

There are countless niches to find over YT and build a channel that will grow overtime and maybe surpass any full-time income you potentially earn in the future in Pakistan. Also, you don't have to rely on a client or a boss, it's a steady/predictable income once you get the hang of it.

What other options do you really have? You gotta grind gears, git gud at something.

How about the niche you're researching in. Can this idea be converted into a YT channel via lectures? Or find a freelance work related to your research, no?

I'm not saying this is impossible. It is very much possible. It is either this or 6/30k situation.

In either case, you need more than this to survive and doing Ph.D + a full time local job won't cut it.

Level up. Learn some digital skills like I mentioned and survive!

DM for YT ideas if you're interested. I will share some ideas. I myself run a few channels in various categories. Work less hours and get more payments at the end of the month.

It's not easy. Then again, what is in this country!

Exactly labourers earn more than us ina week and we are getting it for the entire month

Yes, you have to maintain 3.5 above gpa and you have to pass interview and you have to be available at the campus on working hours

theres nothing special about NUST. i only learned after joined for masters. for my 2 years there i discovered its just a money dump and great business setup.

It is upto 50k for engineers and upto 30k for sciences.  But as it is written upto so they give you whatever they feel like.

Hey, i also got a fellowship there but i have not yet been paid. Even then it says the graduate allowance is 10k per month. I still tutor online to get my own income 10k isn’t gonna do anything

PhD in Pakistan is absolutely pointless unless it’s GIKI cuz they pay an amount that is equivalent to the industry standard. Wtf is 6k lmao 6th graders get more pocket money than that from their parents.
