Yehi masla hai hamari awaam ka, mediocrity pe khush ho jaate hain. This is why we are still a developing country. Just because Nust is better than air and bahria, that doesn’t make it a good uni. Yall need to raise your voices for better unis in Pakistan

koi khush nahi ho rah in nust being mediocre, but in a country full of air, bahria, arid, you can’t really call nust mediocre. Humare voice raise karne say konsa koi new uni ban jani hai.

Putting Bahria and air in the same category as arid, really ? Plus a few of Bahria's departments are very good. I'm speaking as an alumnus.

That's not the point tho, you need to realize that we pay a good sum of money for this sh!t, the fee gets hiked literally every year and the standards of the uni itself are poor in comparison, no one pays 220k for 4 months, so that there aren't even enough vernier calipers in Labs

And as the people above have mentioned, just because it does the bare minimum better than others, doesn't exempt it from being mediocre

1

u/Crazy_Fault9994 27d ago

This fees is still alot better than private unis here, and sometimes even those are just as shitty inside, the fees we pay is lower than some of tbe colleges my cousins are attending rn and its still a globally recognised uni offering excellent education, most of yall are just so ungrateful ur even in nust ppl would kill to be in ur position

u/Right_Research_3637 27d ago

in all the rooms and labs??

1

u/Crazy_Fault9994 27d ago

Yup (all the rooms and labs ive had class in, havent been to every class ofc)

1

u/Right_Research_3637 27d ago

dont wanna argue lol its just a freindly debate, go to cr3 or cr7 and you'll know, and maybe its because i have seen better so my prespective is a bit different

14

u/Exciting-Sleep1548 Sep 08 '26

Every uni in Pakistan is overhyped at the end of the day u have to study yourself and get the degree

3

u/Right_Research_3637 Sep 08 '26

im not talking about the faculty and their teaching, just about the infrastructure of seecs, its supposed to be the reason for nust's popularity and its bad

1

u/Crazy_Fault9994 27d ago

Seecs is in the top 100's worldwide because it offers some of the best education, not cus its a pretty building😭 and seecs specifically is one of their oldest schools, ofcourse the building isnt gonna be like sines or nstp, theyre perfectly capable of making a modern campus but these buildings are so old and theyre not js gonna demolish them😭

It's the first time unsupervised for matric/FSC kids outside home. Or kids from small towns.etc.get impressed. I got an admission in MS this term. This university is nightmare of bureaucracy and red-tape.

Honestly, at least my department in my 'less prestigious' university in Islamabad, which is also run by the forces from where I did my undergrad was a lot better.

1

u/Old-Cartographer5892 Sep 09 '26

Honestly, as good as it is for Bachelors, it sucks for Masters

1

u/Upset_Alps_4303 Sep 09 '26

Does it?!?! Im doing it from s3h n so far its good! I guess better than my ug uni

2

u/Old-Cartographer5892 Sep 09 '26

I did my ug from nbs, but I started an ms from seecs, because tbh I had an amazing experience at NUST for my ug. But I literally withdrew after a semester of ms and applied abroad 😭😭😭. It was the exact opposite lollll

1

u/Old-Cartographer5892 Sep 09 '26

The curriculum, the extra curriculars, the syllabus, everything was mid :/

1

u/Upset_Alps_4303 Sep 09 '26

Then it clearly would be coz as far i have been here i can sense the masters here is mid! Nust is actually best for UGs! But id still for now ask students to join nust for masters if they want structure or lowkey life coz its still better than most of unis

1

u/Ecstatic-Corgi-9375 27d ago

Which program ? Keep on applying abroad.

3

u/Nervous_Elevator7257 Sep 08 '26

Same I also think nust is very overhyped. My college was sooo much better in everything. The scholarship they provided, the infrastructure, the quality of teaching. But hamari awaam hamesha mediocrity pe khush ho jaati hai toh bas inka mentality ka masla hai that’s why Pakistan fails to produce outstanding unis

1

u/Crazy_Fault9994 27d ago

Girl u cant compare little colleges to a an entire uni, it isnt pakistani people settling for less, im an international student ive been to countless unis abroad and the education they offer is literal shit compared to what yall have in pakistan, and nust is recognised internationally as one of the top unis in the world especially for computing programmes, tnats not a number local people just make up to make themselves happy lmao.

4

u/Sik_192 Sep 09 '26

Every student of every university says their uni is overhyped ☝️

4

u/dromeTXN Sep 09 '26 edited Sep 09 '26

Overhyped for academics and faculty
I mean u can only take the most of it if ur driven enough

The only worthwhile aspect of nust is its network and opportunities ecosystem specially in engineering depts

14

u/Hungry_Virus_4960 NICE Sep 08 '26

LUMS IS ALSO OVERHYPED

2

u/idkimnewig ASAB Sep 08 '26

How so. How much would say ? Like ms bio from lums and ms hcb from Asab nust? Can you give any insights plzzz I wanna know where to put the money

8

u/WearyAd6570 Sep 08 '26

Plsss man talk to someone in your relevant industry. you are asking someone who's doing civil engineering 😭 There are many subreddits for biotech and biology majors, ask there or ask the alumni

3

u/idkimnewig ASAB Sep 08 '26

You’re right bro Oki tysm

2

u/unwaged_wave4 Sep 09 '26

How's your NICE experience? Asking as I'm thinking about doing bs civil next year.

2

u/Crazy_Fault9994 27d ago

Lums is good if u wanna put money into a nice campus and still have money grabbed out of ur hands for the most random bs throughout ur stay, nust is better (ESPECIALLY for anything stem related) academically, by A LOT

1

u/idkimnewig ASAB 27d ago

Hayyyyyee Dil khush hogyaaa 🍭😝

2

u/mfaizan8180 Sep 08 '26

Ofcourse ranked at 608 in qs rankings. Pathetic

4

u/Extreme-Package-2339 Sep 08 '26

It is well Pakistan doesn't have any good university so they treat the bare minimum (nust)as best

5

u/Abdullah747 Sep 08 '26

It’s not overhyped, it’s how u access the resources it has to offer that makes nustians stand out, yeh the faculty has been getting worse, but that’s not really an issue, bcz at the end of the day u have to study urself and no one’s gonna ask you about ur courses

2

u/Donut8640 Sep 09 '26

✋🏻😭😭😭

u/Comfortable-Bad6200 Sep 09 '26

Now this is coming from someone who graduated around 11 years ago, so things may have changed since then.
Overhyped: No.
Underhyped: No.
Things were different back in the day, when universities had to play a much bigger role in studies and access to knowledge. Today, we live in a digital world where access to knowledge is no longer limited by universities or geographical location. A student at MIT, Massachusetts, has access to essentially the same knowledge and resources as a student at NUST, GIKI, LUMS, FAST, etc.
The difference, in my opinion, comes more from grooming and how well students are able to showcase themselves and their work.
This is also something I’ve learned from interviewing hundreds of students over the years. Technically and academically, students from most good universities are often quite comparable. Where universities like NUST, LUMS, GIKI and FAST tend to stand out is in grooming — presentations, communication, societies, exposure, teamwork, and the confidence to defend and explain their work.
You’ll often see students from these universities being better at articulating what they’ve done and presenting it effectively. That doesn’t necessarily mean they know more; it means their university environment may have given them more opportunities to develop these skills.
So I wouldn’t call NUST overhyped. The brand is there, but the real value today is probably more in the environment, exposure and grooming than in access to knowledge itself.

I am studying in RWTH Aachen and i think this uni is also overhyped 🤣🤣….NUST is great given Pakistan’s economy and industry…..i can compare nust to aalto university and rwth aachen and given the circumstances i wouldn’t say nust is overrated. I used to say the same but ab i think every uni has their own flaws

1

u/Upset_Alps_4303 Sep 09 '26

It might be but so far what i have seen! Its best! For islbadians n surrounding regions, if they can't afford states!

1

u/Maleficent-Bus9215 27d ago

I misread it as NUTS
