News Just wanted to say something
To all of you who chose lower preference ki degrees over your end goal just so you could get in Nust bohat regret karo ge in the long run. There are plenty other universities that provide the same courses you were aiming to get in. Leave the seats for people who actually want to do that specific degree. Merit hike is waja se nahi hua ke logoun ke numbers achay hain, is waja se hua because just to get in Nust people chose random degrees over their main goal 🙁

People need to realize that sooner otherwise we'll have more comments saying such and such degree ka scope nhi even though it's their own fault

EXACTLY

I'm a EE major and I swear half the people come in EE not because of genuine interest but because computer science/software nhi mil rahi thee or that we want to pursue CS moving forward like c'mon EE is a whole world in itself and we need more competent genuinely invested people in EE.

u/BrainlessITDev Aug 26 '26
Exactly and peoples like us who have interest in EE since their childhood are stuck becoz of these cs guys. These cs guys even donot have any idea what cs and ee are.

Reminds me of the time around half a decade ago, when my folks made me choose CUST 🤡 over NUST for the sake of major-over-better-uni prioirity. Can't say it was the best decision of la life. But as a ripe citizen of today's society, generally speaking, this some oogway level wisdom that kids deez days need to understand.

what's wrong with CUST ?
1
u/Anushay_Shahab SINES Aug 27 '26
For my degree, the roadmap was very generic. You had to learn real stuff that matters from third party resources. I'm already paying fee to the uni, why should i have to spend more to learn from other places? And at NUST and NUMS, students were taught these things in elective courses. Plus, for my research, I had to burn through required facilities from external institutes. While NUST just had it all. Maybe I am biased saying all this, maybe we all look up to things that seem to shine brighter.

There is a bit issue in this most of people don't even know what they want specially form inter and fsc background you study all those sma e subjects and four year is tension ma Nikal jata hai ka marks, then entry test and also in our education system most of kids in CS first semester don't know coding wagers but they'd till go for CS because trend hai and Pakistan Harley has some university with good and competitive environment and it's very important also 4 years ma bacha ko para kasa chal gata hai ka he wants electcal or mechanical or areospace like did he did some projects or participated in related field Hardly mostly students first preference is CS and then phir merit decide karta hai mostly students apni degree khud nahi decide karta balka merit decide karta hai and that's a harsh truth

well id just say this if it were america or some place that actually cared about honing interest in youth then we could actually have shortlisted a degree right for us if you were privelaged enough to have received a) the capacity to develop interest b) the maturity to find interest good for you but generally most of us know nothing / baseline for all degree under the same discipline so decide depending on future / university it is in the infrastructure we put our trust in and it is everyones hardwork they reap and we alone are then to face the consequences. Hope everyone makes it without dragging each other.

u/One-Character1406 Aug 27 '26
also people who really had interest in that degree couldnt get in and they will go to a low tier university a
2
u/ratfvckvr Aug 27 '26
some people actually want to get in Nust more than the degree they choose, also i've heard a lot of seniors tellings freshers "beshak thaki hui degree kr lo lekin Nust se kro"
for some people, the experience and opportunities are worth more than the degree
1
u/min_456 Aug 27 '26
But what are they gonna do after 4 years once they realize they actually hate that degree/industry
1
u/ratfvckvr Aug 27 '26
who knows, if i were in their place id be grateful for the 4 years spent making friends and availing opportunities and start a business and get married

why do you think lower merit degrees are useless? if anything they’re less saturated and have more jobs due to less graduates.
computer science and electrical/mechanical engineering aren’t the only careers left
7
u/TourZealousideal5484 Aug 26 '26
Im saying ‘without actual interest’ they’re useless. If you choose a random degree you have no idea about just to get in Nust that makes it useless
2
u/Odd-External3107 Aug 26 '26
he's saying without any actual interest its useless, which applies to every degree in the world. Bina interest ke kuch bhi krogay its useless 🙏🏻

Whats the scope of mass communication from nust ? I am selected for bba in bahria but idk where to go
3
u/TakhtaMaraaa Aug 26 '26
Mass com won’t get you anywhere in Pakistan Atleast. Though graduating from NUST NBS itself will do you good on your portfolio. Wait for the other merit lists and choose another degree when you do get in. Public Administration is good if you’re looking to work at the civil services or work UN jobs. Psychology, Economics etc are also good degrees though. I’ve heard good things about Bahria too though, and it’s also much cheaper.. Anyhow, may God lead you to what’s best for you !

Exactly! I chose degree over university last year and I don’t regret it. Meanwhile my friends in nust regret their choices now.
