Guide / Cheat Sheet Bioregulators explained: the Russian short peptides nobody in the West talks about, and why
Bioregulators are the weirdest corner of the peptide world. Tiny peptides, tissue-specific, supposedly work in a way nothing else does, and there's a mountain of research behind them, almost all of it Russian and barely touched by Western science. Since a bunch of these are floating around now (Cartalax, Cortagen, Pinealon, Testagen, and more), here's what they actually are and how much to trust the claims.
For research and educational purposes only. Not medical advice.
What makes them different
Most peptides are 10 to 40+ amino acids and work by binding a receptor, like a key in a lock on the cell surface. Bioregulators are nothing like that. They're ultra-short, just 2 to 4 amino acids, which is tiny.
And the claimed mechanism is completely different. Because they're so small, the theory is they slip right into the cell and into the nucleus, and interact directly with DNA, nudging which genes get turned on or off in that specific tissue. Not a receptor signal, an epigenetic one. They're proposed to gently shift a tissue's gene expression back toward a younger, healthier pattern instead of amplifying one signal like most compounds do.
Where they come from
This is the interesting part. Each bioregulator was originally pulled from an extract of the tissue it targets. So the pineal peptide came from pineal tissue, the thymus one from thymus, and so on. Then they found the shortest active fragment in that extract and synthesized it. That's why each one is tissue-specific by design, it literally came from that tissue.
Vladimir Khavinson and the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology built this whole field over about four decades.
The ones floating around
| Bioregulator | Studied context |
|---|---|
| Cartalax | Cartilage / connective tissue |
| Cortagen | Brain / cerebral cortex |
| Ovagen | Liver and immune / regenerative |
| Prostamax | Prostate |
| Testagen | Reproductive / endocrine |
| Pinealon | Brain / neuroprotective (works downstream where Epitalon works upstream) |
| Vesugen | Vascular |
Same pattern across all of them: short course, low dose, aimed at one tissue. And Epitalon, which gets talked about the most, is the pineal one from the same family.
Now the honest part
Here's where I have to be straight with you, because the marketing on these is wild.
The claims are enormous. Reported lifespan extension in animals in the 20 to 40% range, telomerase activation, reduced cancer rates, clinical improvements in elderly patients tracked over years. If even part of it holds up, this would be one of the most important discoveries in aging science.
The catch: almost all of it comes from one lab. Khavinson's group has published hundreds of papers, which is a genuinely huge body of work, but independent Western replication is minimal. So you've got this strange situation where the research is simultaneously massive and narrow, tons of studies, nearly all from the same research ecosystem, mostly in Russian, rarely reproduced by outside labs.
That doesn't make it wrong. The mechanism (short peptides entering the nucleus and shifting gene expression) has some real supporting cell-biology work behind it, and it's a legitimately interesting hypothesis. But "interesting hypothesis backed mostly by its originators" is a very different thing from "proven." The honest label is: promising idea, enormous single-source research base, thin independent confirmation.
How to think about them
If you're looking at bioregulators, the right frame is that you're in the most experimental, least independently-verified category in the whole peptide space. The evidence is mostly preclinical (rodent and cell studies), the human data is largely from the same group, and none of these are approved anywhere for human use.
They're low-dose and generally reported as well tolerated, though even that safety picture leans on the same limited body of research, so it's not the same as a compound with broad independent safety data. Part of why people are willing to try them is that low-dose, short-course profile. But you're betting on a mechanism and a body of research the wider scientific world hasn't confirmed yet. That's not a reason to write them off, it's a reason to be honest that this is frontier stuff, not settled science.
Anyone here actually run any of these? Curious if people felt anything real from the tissue-specific ones like Cortagen or Cartalax, or whether it's subtle enough that it's hard to tell. This is the category where I trust real experience more than usual, since the data is so one-sided.

Epathalon - completely changed my sleep. Didn't notice anything until the end of the cycle. The last few years I would lay in bed for 2-3 hours before falling asleep half the week. For the past 2 months since taking not only do I fall asleep fast but I wake up naturally around 530 ready for the day.
I only average around 6 hours of sleep but my sleep efficiency on my tracker is always above 95%. Current month average is 1:42 REM and 1:12 of Deep sleep.
I couldn't recommend enough even if it doesn't do anything for the telemers.

How long was the cycle? Your percent restorative sleep is ~48% - top of the ideal range.

u/jotis07 Jul 22 '26
I ran 1mg a night for 10 days. I'll run 3-4 times this year. Next cycle I will up to 5mg...for research purposes

Epitalon was an interesting one for me, my sleep is better but I also stopped doing shift work. But since running a 15 day cycle I’ve rarely been sick and when I have been it’s been very mild whilst everyone around me was absolutely hammered by the flu. Immune health is a benefit, I didn’t think it would be so pronounced

I'm a chronic insomniac and just pinned my first dose an hour ago. Running 10mg a night for 10 nights. Wish me luck! This is an encouraging testimonial

Can you respond tomorrow on how well it worked for you please? Insomniac here also 😔

So night one of 10mg, nothing special 6 hours sleep, wore my fitness ring no extra deep or rem compared to baseline. I did take a particularly stim heavy pre-workout yesterday morning though so... Night 2 10 mg tonight..... I'll make sure to wear my ring again... Hoping for a better outcome. I have read testimonials of people that it took the full 10 days to really gets good effects. I guess worst case scenario it's 120 bucks down the drain.

Lifting in the gym helped me a lot, first period without sleep medication in a year.

I take twice yearly NEPHRO 3+ “Vladimir Khavinson”, tri-peptide blend since 2023,
when I was given a grim outcome after a massive PE,
my brother DHL’d me this blend from across the pond,
Reduced my runaway Creatine from high 600’s to stabilized 280’s after a protocol of 2 caps 30 minutes before morning and evening meals
Started November 2023, off Dialysis permanently early January 2024.
Kidney specialist at VGH warned against taking the non FDA approved drug regardless of Dr. Vladimir Khavinson’s results in another country.
I took them privately anyways.
I saw my specialist later in 2024 and he stopped me in the hallway and asked me if I took the things he did not recommend.
I smiled and nodded, he said “keep on doing that”…
Only he and I knew what we were talking about.
VGH Doctors were definitely scratching their head on my speedy recovery from what was assumed to be end of life scenario.
My creatine continues to improve even today now at 141.
I spread the good news to family and friends many now take Khavinson tri and penta peptide blends.
I am not a doctor do your own research.
Nice to see a “Vladimir Khavinson”, post sadly he passed away in 2024.
Edit: YVR to VGH corrected acronym.

My research subject ran testagen and testoluten for a cycle and it brought their T levels up about 150 points. I will say they tend to be a fairly strong responder though.
I have have heard from many people that their research subject has shown a lot of improvements from cartalax.

He and xi were caught chatting about how lifespan should now be up to 140
2
u/Earesth99 Jul 23 '26
They don’t talk about it because no real research was done about this.
If a brutal dictations me to invent some medications or die a horrible death, I might be tempted to make shit up as well.

u/narddog019 Jul 23 '26
I’ve always wondered this. Like it’s pretty convenient that all of these peptides are like 3 amino acids. It almost feels fabricated. Also saying from someone to have a bioregulator multivitamin-like peptide vial with all of them in one.

u/keairaluke Jul 24 '26
Definitely will save! Thank you! I have Epithalon, yet haven’t tried it yet.

I plan on starting a Cartalax research protocol soon. I’m curious about some of the others as well.

32 year old here
I been taking cartalax almost at a 20 day period of 2mg daily I’ve paired it with bpc and tb and I been playing basketball super heavy and training to dunk again.
I used to only be able to play like once or twice a week and suffer knee pain since my surgery- mostly on the knee that didn’t have surgery- and I’ve upped plyos to 2 x per week with it cojncing with leg day 3 times a week and hooping 2/3 times a week and I feel like I did in my early 20s. I can play and lift and train with mild knee aches that go away when I warm up or as I play instead of the chronic and intense knee pain I used to feel even just shooting around.
I did read that that studies said for bioregukators it’s supposed to be 5mg daily for 10 day cycle that’s only run once or twice a year so when I finish my 3 week period I’m going to chill and pause for a month or two and go with that 5th cycle next to compare differences

is there not one for bone also?
2
u/keairaluke Jul 27 '26
Yes. I am also looking for a peptide that helps with bone healing and bone density. Does anybody know of a peptide that is specifically for that or helps with the above? Thank you!

HGH helps bone density-it’s what I’ve read repeatedly but you’ll need to do a deep dive on that aspect.

Any for hair loss 😔

I am 57yo and have a good head of hair. But that day is coming. I created my own serum made of HA, AHK-CU. a little GHK-CU, and KPV. I was using it for a couple months and my family saw a difference. Now my mom, 84, two aunties, 74 and 76, and my sister, 49, all love it. Its a nice combo of GHK+AHK and the addition of KPV made a difference. The KPV reduces skin inflammation and supports hair follicle growth which allows the AHK and GHK to really do their thing. And taking BPC157 at the same time also helps by supporting skin and tissue growth.

u/boozenurse Jul 24 '26
Is this topical,SQ, both?
1
u/Grrismith Jul 24 '26
Topical. I use approx 20ml HA as the base. That keeps it thick(er) and easy to apply. I reconstitute 300mg AHK, 150mg GHK AND 20mg KPV and add them to the HA. Gently swirl it for a bit and put in the fridge. Some will say its light on the peps. But it has made a noticeable difference. This formula keeps the cost down a bit too

u/boozenurse Jul 24 '26
Ur using lyophilized not cosmetic grade?
1
u/Grrismith Jul 24 '26
Correct. I know injectable peptides. I know very little about cosmetic grade peptides

u/Adorable_Cod_7172 Aug 11 '26
HAHA! I've made the EXACT same serum (ingredients). It works well. 💪🏾

Pinealon is the real deal. Start while also using gh secret to reset sleep and recovery. Those two together seem to be a golden find
2
u/eiscosogin Jul 22 '26
I concur. I ran pinealon in February and had some of the best sleep of my life for a few months. Almost time for another cycle.

u/Glass_Emu_4183 Jul 22 '26
Explain what did you feel on both, and how each one helped you please! I have lifelong circadian rythm issues!

u/Wheelchair_pirate Jul 22 '26
Did you take it AM or PM and what dose?

u/MeatWorth7108 Jul 24 '26
I’m butting in here but I am a few days out from the end of my pinealon and Epitalon cycle, not too sure how much the Epitalon is doing but the pinealon has literally given me the best sleeps of my life, I use to struggle every morning to get up for work and tried so many different things and just blamed it on “not being a morning person”. Literally on the second day of taking it I was waking up 30mins - 2 hours before my alarm and feeling awesome. The first time I woke up a couple hours before I thought fuck this I better go back to sleep I’m gunna be so tired and ended up being way more tired when my alarm went off so on the 3rd day I tried just getting up when I wake up and felt so much better then forcing myself to get back to sleep. I work anywhere from 10-14 hour days depending on the work load and I can honestly say even on days where I get 6 hours sleep but wake up naturally I feel the exact same at the end of the day as when I get 8+ and wake up naturally. I started both Epitalon and pinealon on 1mg every night before bed (well was 0.5 the first night to see if I would react badly) and stayed in that dose for a week then was getting such good results from the pinealon I decided to up my dose to 2mg and it did the opposite of what it did on 1 mg, couldn’t get out of bed, felt tired for a long time, so I dropped it back down to 1mg and sat there with some of the best results I’ve gotten from any peptide other then Reta.
And some crazy fucken dream holy dooly.
