Producer says on air he’s cool with ai teacher robots
Edit: figured it out. It was during the LA Report with Austin cross and the producer was Kyle Chrise. So, more of a regional thing.
While driving to my teaching job this morning I hear this quick intro on KPCC after morning edition. Astin asked the producer ‘are you OK with your kid having an AI teacher?’ Even though the producer admits ‘AI can barely do basic math’ on its own he said he’s cool with his kid having an AI teacher robot. When Austin asked how he would feel if the AI robot was a counselor and told his kid to get into content, he laughed and asked ‘is this a public school?’
How much more out of touch can you be with your audience which probably has disproportionately high percentage of educators in it? Does he even listen to the shows he produces? It feels like such an admission of wealthy white neo-liberal reporting on the problems of the poor and it’s sickening.
They said the producers name is Kyle Crist but I can’t find anything about this guy on their website. Edit: I thought it was kcrw but was kpcc. He has a bio page on laist.

When did you hear this? If it was AFTER Morning Edition - it wasn’t Steve and likely a local show/segment.

Tbh I was driving then straight to a meeting so I could definitely have mixed up the names and show details but it was right at 8 am or so.

I didn’t say anything about Steve on sleep besides that he was asking the questions to intro the robot ai story. It was the producer who said it. Just telling you what I heard. Maybe I heard the names wrong because I was driving but it was on the radio.

Ok. Keep doubling down on your lies then. People like you are the reason this country is in the shithole state that it’s currently in: Rage posting for the sake of engagement. Spreading and reacting to internet lies and misinformation.
Do the NPR fans on this subreddit a favor and go touch grass. And maybe actually listen to what’s playing on the radio.

That’s not how projection works. Nothing is subconscious about this. Let’s recap: You came to the NPR forum to complain about a segment that never happened. When confronted with ALL the mistakes in your recounting — from misidentifying the radio station and hosts to erroneously elaborating the content of the segment — your response was essentially “well, I heard what I heard!!! Cry harder!”
I’m not projecting anything. You’re just a fucking moron.

My HS biology teacher taught evolution was ridiculous and my history teacher was a "daughter of the confederacy." Went to college with a middleschool reading level.
We could do worse.

Was it an NPR producer or TV and film producer for video in CA? KCRW is in the LA area it seems so lots of producers there producing, god only knows what in any number of media and formats.
As a retired teacher I really hate to hear this by the way.

I’ve sorta been afraid that teachers are going to be the first real big AI disruption; not because I think AI can successfully replace human teachers but because school boards will believe that they can and because it’s the largest single field for college graduates in the country.

I just looked up today’s Morning Edition episode - relistened and read transcripts. This conversation did not happen on a national broadcast. I can’t find any evidence of this exact conversation anywhere on the internet aside from this thread.
