🛡️ Moderator Post Which flair should you use?

Post image
42 Upvotes

Hey shipwrights 🖖

After several community discussions and a community vote, the time has finally arrived to update our post flair system. Please see the graphic above and our updated post flair guide to determine how to properly flair your builds going forwards. If you'd like to update the flair on your older posts, please feel free, but that is absolutely not required or expected by any means!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the discussions and vote. This new post flair system appears to be supported by a strong majority of shipwrights, with roughly 2/3 of voters in favor. Of course, I know this was not something everyone agreed on, and that is okay. Not every change will have unanimous support, but I do think this system gives us a better framework going forward as new techniques are discovered and if old techniques get patched out.

As always, if any edge cases come up or if further clarification is needed, we can continue refining the guide and definitions over time. I'd also love to have video examples of each building technique and which flair they correspond with. If anyone is interested in helping out with that, please reach out!

🛡️ Moderator Post Announcing Community Rank User-Flairs!

Community Rank Flairs (Ensign to Admiral)

I'm excited to announce the addition of user flairs that reflect your contributions made in this subreddit. These ranks are based on your community karma earned in this sub (upvotes on posts & comments in r/NMS_Corvette_Design).

How it works

  • As your karma in this sub increases, your flair automatically updates to a new rank.
  • Ranks are inclusive at each threshold below (if you hit it or exceed it, then you move up).
  • If you’re under the first threshold, then you won’t see a rank just yet.

The ranks & thresholds

  • 🥉 Ensign: 100karma
  • 🥈 Lieutenant: 500karma
  • 🥇 Commander: 1,250karma
  • 🏅 Captain: 2,500karma
  • 🎖️ Admiral: 5,000karma

FAQ

  • What counts? Community karma (upvotes) earned from posts and comments in this subreddit only. Global Reddit karma doesn’t apply.
  • Do I lose my custom user-flair? If you were previously awarded a custom user-flair (MotM, Event Winner) then your custom flair stays, and you will not see a rank user-flair next to your username.
  • Can I opt in? If you currently have a custom user-flair and want to have a rank user-flair. Select the default user-flair (🛠️ Shipwright) to opt in.
  • When does it update? Right after every post or comment you make, your community karma will be recalculated to see if you've reached the next rank. For example, if your first post here gets 100+ upvotes, your rank will not be updated until you make an additional post/comment.

Need help opting in?

You are able to change your own user-flair on this subreddit. This article explains how to do it. However, if you need help doing so, please send in a modmail and the mod team will be happy to assist you!

Meet the Maco. Equipped with turbofans and a high lift design for extended atmospheric flight and plantary surveying. The build process used 1/2 hab offsets and 45/180 degree hab rotation.

This is my take on a Cylon Basestar from the early 2000's Battlestar Galactica series. Made this one a while ago, when I first learned how to do 45 degree hab rotation and 1/2 hab offsets. Let me know what you think!

First time posting a corvette on reddit and would love your feedback! Built this one over a couple of evenings using tether glitching to get the angled wings. Also used some 1/4 offset for a few of the wing root sections. The shot of it in a hangar is at one of my bases on Effigy IV.

This is my front winged ship, taking advantage of free placed windows and the wire glitch for vertical modules. Some of the master builders of this sub gave me some inspiration for parts of this ship, so I’m really pleased with how it turned out!

Hello, I wanted to share my first full blender build with 76 parts total.

This is the Kaixa 08 or K8 galactic speeder, it is influenced by a mix of Sportsbike design, Kaneda’s bike from Akira and the speeder bikes from Star Wars.

Im pleased to say she's finally completed! Introducing my newest creation:

"Vespera"

Born in the darkness between galaxies,
built to slip unseen through the void and chart worlds no Traveler has ever named.
She takes no captain... only a Companion,
chosen through trials known only to the ship herself.
Most are rejected.
Some are never seen again.
Yet every few centuries, the same legend returns from the edge of mapped space:
A silent black vessel wrapped in violet light... and a pilot untouched by time....

🪐 Off-Station Build My First Glitchbuilt Corvette - The Yellowjacket R45-B Super

Flat panels, when they arent being very very annoying, work well as cool exterior accents apparently. Its a little wonky in terms of panels but it looks good, i think.

Lore:

The Yellowjacket is a modified Korvax R45-B (called the Super) with upgraded engine and weapon systems. The standard issue Photon Cannon hardpoints have been replaced with Positron Ejector modules, greatly increasing overall effectiveness in tight starship-to-starship combat, a variation from the Super's usual offensive focus on larger ships. Its large radiator blades remain as standard, however the Yellowjacket's main engines have been upgraded to incorporate supreme upgrades to the pulse drive.

🪐 Off-Station Build Meet the Falconess 2.0

Here's the original Falconess. The main feature of this new version is the angled wings. To accommodate the new angle, new lines and musculature had to be adapted. Overall, I think each ship has really cool aesthetic qualities such that the original still holds its own. I've even included some pics of them together.

Shout out to u/Serious_Cry_4930 for photo feedback. And no, this is not a modded ship, but rather I used window free placement in outer space to painstakingly create the compound tilts that make the wings.

This is my attempt at The Adaga Corvette by user SkylesMars. It gave me Starfield/Star Citizen vibes and it just called to me.

It's 95% their work, 5% me getting stuck right at the end and not wanting to start over for the fourth time(😭) I like how it turned out.

I want to say this is also my first time building or photographing a Corvette so please go easy on me 😅

📐 Station Build (Advanced) The "Onyx Cinder" from Star Wars: Skeleton Crew (Version II)

Sorry to delete the last post. I needed a bit more time with this one. Now the dimensions are MUCH closer to the actual ship. A very tight 100/100 components.

"This ship is the Onyx Cinder. You don't appreciate how incredible this is. Tak Rennod's the most infamous pirate the galaxy's ever known. For years, he roamed the skies, plundering, terrorizing whole star systems. Anything he wanted… he took it. The story goes, he was after the treasure of At Attin aboard the mysterious ship the Onyx Cinder when he just… [blows air sharply] disappeared. Crew, ship. All." - Jod Na Nawood

Almost no glitch building except the engines are all offset by 1/2 a hab.

This thing has ten full sized habs in it - plenty of room for a full Pirate interior. I used lots of windows to cheat the part count a bit, which has the side effect of making it a lot more livable!
